Is it 1996? Or 2004?

1996 - A sitting president faces a ticket consisting of an Establishment GOP stalwart denounced by his own base as a RINO and an unapologetic free-marketeer who appeals to moderates. The president is re-elected handily.

2004 - A sitting president faces a ticket consisting of an extremely wealthy politician who appears aloof and charisma-free and a young politician with strong base appeal who turns out to be something of a snake-oil salesman. The president is re-elected in a squeaker.

Or is there another year this is looking like? 1948?
