Global Warming Deniers

There are still a few. But to my surprise over the summer we heard from Exxon's CEO (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002875984) and one of the Koch bros pocket science wonks (http://www.democracynow.org/2012/8/2/climate_skeptic_koch_funded_scientist_richard), telling us that in fact it is really happening.

Then the other night I was watching Frozen Planet on Discovery (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/frozen-planet/) and a portion of the program was dedicated to the industries (oil, gas, mining, shipping) that would stand to benefit from the melting of the Arctic sea ice that currently inhibits them from doing business in the Arctic. That is when it finally occurred to me that of course these guys know that climate change is happening.

The pushers of the false science have finally achieved their goal so now they can soften their stance. Good thing too because after this summer, many of their followers have begun harboring doubts. No worries though, they have finally achieved their goal: the Arctic will be open for business in the near future and there is nothing we can do about it (at least not in terms of keeping it off limits do to sea ice).

Evil bastards!

1. This is an example of how We the People are manipulated. This kind of thing

has been going on far a long time. Corporations actually laugh at the notion of We the People. Fascist corporations control the message and intertwine it with bigoted religious beliefs. The fact that ultra right wing evangelicals believe that God gave man the earth to use and consume totally means they believe it doesn't matter what happens to the earth because God will come back and save us all in the end.
Fear is a potent weapon and the manipulation of fear makes it more powerful.

4. Already happening- Shell opens new oil frontier in Arctic with Chukchi Sea drilling

SEATTLE -- A potential new energy frontier opened early Sunday in the U.S. Arctic, as Royal Dutch Shell plumbed a drill bit into the bed of the Chukchi Sea, 70 miles off the coast of northwest Alaska.

The oil company that has spent six years and $4.5 billion trying to launch America’s first offshore oil production in the Arctic announced that its Noble Discoverer had anchored northwest of Alaska’s North Slope and begun drilling the “top hole” of an exploration well. The work was the first step toward drilling a pilot hole that will go about 1,300 feet deep.

The company will not be allowed to plumb deeper into actual hydrocarbon deposits until its oil spill containment barge is completed and on site, a step that could come within the next few weeks, or perhaps not until next year. But Shell officials said that even the preliminary well preparation will put the project on a good course for completion during the 2013 drilling season.

The work that began in the Arctic dawn is the first exploratory drilling in the Arctic since the early 1990s — when far less regulatory scrutiny was placed on the delicate ecosystem of the Far North. The project marks an important milestone for Alaska, where oil production has been declining steadily from the aging oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk on the North Slope.

They're the same. And that ought to enrage many on this forum as well.

8. our EXPLOSION on our host planet is just fine with almost all humans.

Our numbers are causing a mass-extinction, killing the oceans, leveling mountains and ancient forests.. but this is a non-issue to anyone who realizes the godlike superiority of humans, especially of the adorable baby ones, each so full of promise... (oh but we better not think of how many thousands of those die of starvation every 24 hours!)

like the medieval era when this happened - no biggie - this is just a part of the ups and downs of the planet and all will be well.

She's a Faux brainwashed rethug of the worst order so now that climate change can't be denied, she's lapping up the next lie, this isn't "man made", its just normal cyclical patterns that will self-correct. Its enough to make you crazy.

the graph stating how "the U.S. is only ranked 17th in the world."

That commercial makes me want to hurl vast quantities of undigested material at the television.

These ass-wipes have done nothing but tear down and oppose the world's best and overwhelming quantity of peer reviewed scientific evidence warning against the looming catastrophe of global warming climate change.

They have spent mega millions against the political movement; warning of and pushing to adapt or avert this global crisis threatening life as we know it and now Exxon; uses their money for commercials as a fig leaf to fool the people in to believing they actually give a rat's ass about U.S. science and education after doing nothing but trashing it.

Thanks for the thread, tk2kewl.
