that something isn't 'right' with their stand. Like their conscience is poking them and making them uncomfortable, so they spout off their "beliefs/talking points" looking for support- and conformation, and when they get it from each other it numbs their doubts a little.
If someone dares to say something that deepens their self-doubt, it makes them really angry and unsettled.

People who are secure in what they believe don't usually have to keep looking for others to confirm that theirs is the correct position for them. They aren't threatened by those who hold opposing views, and can point out why they believe what they do with facts and reason.

I think the level of crazy in the republican party is as high as it is, because people are fighting really hard to believe the unbelievable and to defend the indefensible-

My husband and I are constantly bombarded with anti-Obama/Democrat comments from people we barely know, new coworkers, neighbors, etc. They assume we must be "one of them" because of my husband's military career. I finally told one neighbor I was a Democrat and supported Obama, and haven't gotten a hello from him since. Because that's the kind of people Republicans are: insecure, angry, intolerant pants-wetters.

The sheer amount of open venom is unbelievable. So true as well about conservatives trying to politicize every aspect of nearly every conversation, no matter the subject. I can't imagine the extra stress that all the hate can generate would be like to live with.

You need to remind them that since 1996, welfare only lasts for 3 years at a stretch, 5 years total for a lifetime. That's not a "lifestyle." You don't "choose" welfare instead of a job. It's a temporary safety net for when you can't find work. That's all it is now.

Somebody's been lying to these Republicans and they're swallowing it wholesale.
