This fossil fuel corporation fucked up the Gulf for probably a century or forever, but they promote themselves as some environmental group. Talking about the forest arsonists claiming to be the forest saviors. Unbelievable!

NEW ORLEANS Laboratory tests show that globs of oil found on two Louisiana beaches after Hurricane Isaac came from the 2010 BP spill.
Tests run by Louisiana State University for state wildlife officials confirmed that oil found on Elmer's Island and Grand Isle matched the biological fingerprint of the hundreds of millions of gallons of oil that spewed from BP's Macondo well.

(541 posts)My wife was born and raised 30 miles northwest of Grand Isle, in Lafourche Parish, La.
My FIL down there worked For big oil for 45 years and is hardcore repub (so isn't close to being the first man to slam BP), but even he says those "dispersants" were the biggest load of b.s. The spilled oil is all still there, just hanging in the water, well enough below the surface that it's not easily monitorable. Shrimping has been destroyed down there, and he and everyone there stankin' Hates it, and BP, by extension (though he doesn't mention BP by name).

(2,068 posts)Aside from the horrific situation they left there, the ads do paint the area as very nice and play like an excellent travel ad instead of a "we messed up but we are trying" ad. All that tasty looking seafood, happy faces and nice water shots will at least keep vision of the area nice and tourism is the best cure in the end anyway.

They have poisoned the Gulf badly. And are going to get away with it.

the BP sponsorship thing was very very very hard to take.

(24,411 posts)...check out their BP Facebook page. It is mind blowingly disgusting and unreal.
BP posts constantly about how beautiful the Gulf is and how bountiful and healthy the wildlife is. Then, they take credit for the gorgeous sandy shores and the teeming birds and fish.
I'm not kidding.
If anyone dares to suggest that BP caused the mess in the first place, or if anyone posts evidence of Gulf damage--immediately a fake group of FB posters descends on you and accuses you of wanting Gulf tourism to fail. They pile on you in a concerted effort. One accuses you of harming the Gulf recovery, then another will make a joke about what a negative jerk you are. Then another will attack you and say that maybe you need an attitude adjustment. They all "like" each other's statuses and they are unrelenting until you go away.
Obviously, they are fake FB accounts. Most of these posters have hollow accounts. Either you can't access any of their information or the info looks fake. I have heard that a PR agency staffs this nonsense. It really is revolting.
I was only there a few times and I hung in there and told them what I thought. However, it really is a lost cause, because they've got a team of 10 against anyone who criticizes them.
I am still pissed about that, to this day. According to the Public Relations Society of America--agencies are not supposed to engage in this type of fake PR. If someone reported them, they could get into trouble. Reminds me that I need to research this a bit further.
People do need to take a look at it. It's BP America's Facebook page.

global1
(25,167 posts)provided evidence of BP's cover-up of the evidence. Globs of oil will be seen on beaches of the Gulf Coast for decades on end. They are just throwing good money after bad by running those PR commercials for themselves. People on the Gulf Coast will never forget the damage they have done. Instead of spending their money on these commercials trying to make themselves look good - BP needs to put that money and more in to continual clean-up until every last glob of oil is gone.

(2,531 posts)I wa in a machine shop program designed to filter new workers to the Richmond Ca. facility. The teachers were good and had years of experience w/ Chevron before coming to teach @ College of Marin.
I remember one teacher telling us how the good deads pointed out in the "people do" commercials were all mandated by federal regulations. They just decided to use them for PR instead of having it lobbied out of existence.
Just reminded myself how much things have changed & how they never will in some ways..

(3,112 posts)The way they say we are committed to a 20 billion dollar clean up...or words to that effect...it totally makes me want to retch. You fuckers were ORDERED to pay that much for the clean up by the Obama administration. You weren't given a choice to pay or not to pay. Period, full stop, end of story. You didn't just pony up the coin out of some altruistic commitment to the Gulf coast region.
Go fuck yourselves BP, and do it post-haste.

(199 posts)how I feel about them. I lived on the Gulf and lost my business ( I haven't been compensated yet because my business was a financial business and they aren't paying financial businesses) and I lost my home of seventeen years. I wore out a path to BP Claims Offices for months and was promised help but it never came. So many people are still waiting and waiting and waiting. It's a mess. I moved out of the area. Friends called me last week and said lots of oil was churned up once again during Hurricane Isaac.
They destroyed my life.
