Mitt Romney's Epic Incompetence

I’ve been following politics for many years; I’ve written a book on presidential campaigns and I’ve delved quite a bit into the minutiae of the 2012 campaign. And I’m increasingly convinced that Mitt Romney is the worst national politician I’ve ever seen.

There are so many proof points to back up this supposition that I could go on for a while, but I’ll just stick to Romney’s train wreck of an interview on "Meet The Press" on Sunday. This was not exactly a hard-hitting inquiry, what with inquiries from David Gregory like, “Do you feel like an underdog or do you feel like you’re right in this thing?” and a dearth of many follow-up questions.

Still, none of this stopped Romney from stepping on landmine after landmine. He was unable to offer a single tax loophole that he wanted to close. even though closing these loopholes and deductions is foundational to his argument that massive tax cuts for the rich won't actually lessen their tax burden.

On health care, Romney said that he wouldn’t get rid of all of Obamacare, even though he’s been saying for months that repealing the law will the first thing he’ll do upon taking office. Embarrassingly, only hours after making this statement he reversed it . . . twice. As Steve Benen noted, “over the course of one day, Romney went from supporting full repeal [of Obamacare] to partial repeal, while taking four different positions on protections with those with pre-existing conditions."

I think that's his issue. He wants to win.. desperately, his entire life has been working toward this moment. It's apparent in all of this past experiences, and how he's reacted and tried to keep his "reputation" as pure as possible (by hiding Olympic records, etc.)

He feels entitled to this.. but sadly, like a 5'1" basketball player that trains their whole life to be on the Olympic Team, Romney cannot deliver. He is flawed because of his blind ambition. His time has been spent getting ready to be President, instead of really doing the things that could have made him a good one. And truly.. he's just a flawed person with no substance.

But he also believes that he knows better than anyone.. including his own staff and his donors. And that's the problem for him. Bush was at least clever enough to show up where they wanted him, say what they told him to say, and then shut up. Romney will entertain NO dissent! And it's obvious.

He really IS that bad.

a person does not have a moral core. The most evil people on earth often love their families dearly. But the measure of a human being is how much one care about people, even those that can't help you. Romney has no core. He says at any moment what he thinks will gain him favor. Romney does not stand up to evil voices around him because he has not the core that allows him to see their evil.

And i never thought I'd say that about him.
But 'W' had a 'Texan-out-of-Connecticut' folksy way that charmed some.
Rmoney just has...nuthin'.
