(65,078 posts)Besides, the supply chain is going to catch up. These 26 bidders must not know much about business.
Already, stores have TP in some places. They put a 1 package per customer limit. Pack of 9 lasts even a large family, 10 days. In 10 days, shelves will be restocked.
Stupid on the part of bidders, horrible on the part of the profiteers.

I figured I'd have enough for two weeks, I'd go back to the store, and there would be more. It doesn't seem that's happening.

(65,078 posts)I'm seeing on shelves again. Yeah, the one pack per person thing, but they have it.
JIT prevented instant restocking because of the scramble. But, they're catching up.
Didn't the hoarding just start Thursday or Friday before last? That's only 10 days.

(46,051 posts)But folks on Nextdoor are reporting no paper products on the shelves. Costco dot com doesn't have any. I guess I can call the store and ask, but they must answer hundreds of such calls per day.
I guess I'm still good for a couple of weeks. Or maybe Target will have it. They have a special hour from old folks like me to shop now.

(8,445 posts)I may be wrong, but I think it'll be much more available in stores by then. Whoever bought into this gouging is a fool, and just perpetuates this idiocy.

I just ordered some toilet paper on Ebay because it doesn't look as if what I bought before the Stay at Home is going to last. I imagine I paid more for it than it cost in the store, but it wasn't ridiculous and the shipping was free.
On edit: I totally misunderstood what I'd ordered. I thought I'd ordered 5 rolls for about $12. Turned out I'd ordered 1 at 1.99 and 9.99 for shipping. Naturally, I cancelled the order.
Then I tried to order 5, and the dude was going to charge $48 in shipping. So, yeah, his TP didn't cost much, but I was paying him $50 to go to the post office. Bastards.
I just hope folks in this thread are correct that the shelves will be restocked.

(1,178 posts)Now they've listed another pack for sale. So obviously, it's someone who hoarded it for profit. I also wouldn't be surprised the person has someone artificially driving up the bids to see if they can get the other bidders to panic-bid.

(1,990 posts)Ebay survives on shill bidding. Most people don't understand this. Ebay knows how prevalent it is, understands that it is illegal in most States and allows it to happen anyway because they get a % cut of the sales price. It affects 50% or more of collectibles auctions and almost anyone who is a "long time seller" is doing it. No doubt they sellers are doing it with home items now.

(1,178 posts)The seller probably has another account and is seeing if they can get the other bidders to engage in panic bidding. I wouldn't doubt if the seller ends up being the high bidder approaches the next highest seeing if they want to buy it at their highest bid.
