I wear a mask and gloves to take the trash out.
I drive up to my garage with a mask on.
I walk my pup with a mask on.
Each time, he turns his head and mumbles something to himself.

(7,947 posts)I live in a town with a lot of cases. Went to the big grocery store today. Most everyone was wearing masks, including the young people. The only people I saw without a mask were angry-faced middle-aged white people.
A couple actually glared at me like I was doing something that insulted them. Fortunately for them, my mask covered my expression.

(4,434 posts)Last week I posted a meme about wearing masks that said anyone who refuses to wear one is stupid. My cousin responded with this idiotic statement "anyone who tells me I have to wear a mask loses me as a customer or a friend, and I won't be back". I told him the meme was directed at people like him and added that any responsible business would be happy to lose him a customer.

Tomorrow (Friday night) we will have our first get together of the summer. All will be wearing masks, bringing our own drinks and we will sit in lawn chairs in family groups at the dead end of our road. There are a few bonehead GOP folks at the other end of the road, but they are 1/2 mile away, and we ignore their stupidity as much as we can.

(21,146 posts)Most of us are seniors, but I have seen only a couple people beside myself wearing a mask. I wear one every time I need to go out of my apt in case I run into anyone. The halls are not wide enough for any kind of distancing.
There is a laundry room on each floor. I wipe down the machines before using them. Same with the elevator buttons and the doors I need to touch going outdoors and back inside again.
When I have to go to the pharmacy or grocery store, I wear gloves as well as a mask. My skin is dry, made worse by frequent hand washing, so it cracks and splits easily. I still wash them after taking off the gloves, but they are protected while I'm out.

(14,847 posts)Anything that might contradict their mythology is viewed as a threat to them.
Like when I had giant pick-up trucks tailgating me, at high speed, back when I drove a Prius. (No more Prius, no more of those bizarre incidents.)
The Prius was likely viewed as my acceptance of global warming, which their leaders tell them is a hoax. So I was a threat for "perpetuating" it.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)And distressing.
Wow about your Prius period.
Reminds me, remember Dennis Weaver in Duel? I didn't know Steven Spielberg's name from Cheerios back in the '70s when I on turned this "whatever-rerun-was-playing" for background noise while I cleaned house. A no-budget movie with an intolerably stupid premise, but instead of flipping to another of my 3 channels, in short order I was glued to the TV yelling at Weaver to just get out of the stupid car. A few times as I recall. Spielberg.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,847 posts)I was glued to the screen too!
Very simple story, but it was riveting somehow.
It was many years later, long after his fame, that I learned Spielberg directed it. Then I probably had a little confirmation bias while thinking, "I knew that was a good movie!" Lol. It really did keep me engrossed, though.
The Prius incidents didn't happen constantly, but probably about twice a year. It never happened again after I started driving a different Toyota model, though. (It gets decent mileage too, but it's not as strongly associated with being green.)

(32,356 posts)... but I don't see anyone wearing a mask while walking their dog. Everyone wears one in the grocery store or other kind of store, because those are enclosed places. But walking outside, riding a bike, doing yardwork - these are things people do on their own. Why is a mask needed? It's not any kind of political motivation either, we're all/mostly Democrats in Pittsburgh.

(32,567 posts)the mail or taking out the trash. I tend to let my guard down when I'm in or right outside my home, but 2 weeks ago I had a surprise face to face encounter with a neighbor who came by as I was pulling out my garage. And of course, we were both maskless. Smh. Then he ambushed me again a few days later.
Anyway, you never know when someone is going to pop up unexpectedly so it's a good idea to be prepared. Especially, it seems, when right outside your home.
