Reading how Trump has yielded North Carolina, preferring to seek another

state for the GOP convention, it occurs to me that it's sending a signal that they're closer to losing, and most political savvy people would figure that out. So, I thought I would really enjoy watching this presidential election more than the others, because it's so rare to see Republicans knowingly throw good money after bad money.

We need a perfectly timed operation to close the border to keep dangerous contagions from crossing into out country.

What if normally compliant 'con Governors, might hedge, given virus 2nd stage evidence. Could blow up in their face.

My friend was up there to visit someone that fell and was in the trauma unit for three days and she said the hospital took precautions, but everywhere else, people were lax about Covid precautions. Few masks. I wondered if it was because it was a county that was not hit hard by the virus?

get their news. My other option is out of Gainesville and that's a Sinclair station, so it sucks. Covid in Duval is probably less than the really big counties. Outside of Jacksonville and suburbs the population centers in Duval are relatively small.

I follow my county every day. The numbers shift down every now and then.

And Sumter, what's going on there? The testing is very low and the number was stuck at 253 cases for 3-4 days.

It's like they stopped testing.

an international business community, and is a spring break hot spot. Our county did not take any particular precautions prior to DeSantis' late closure orders.

There is no way on this planet our numbers are as low as they are reported to be. If that were the case, why did the largest hospital group in the county put out a request for donated homemade masks a couple of weeks ago?

None of it makes sense in my neck of the woods.

Maybe this is the big one that will finally turn that applecart upside down. Because it's not hard to recognize honest, capable leaders.

I would say that I don't understand why we accept less, but I know why. The business sector and the real estate industry have too much say on what goes on around here.

at this late date is that every other gathering of any kind has already been cancelled. Otherwise, there would be few hotel rooms or convention centers available to book this close to a convention.

Threaten to walk away, thinking that the other side will step into the "hero" role to save the deal by conceding previously settled points.

The problem, of course, is that the contracts are already signed, and North Carolina doesn't have a compelling reason to bargain against itself to "save" the deal. Yeah, Charlotte will lose millions of dollars of anticipated revenue, but the city's already lost millions and millions of dollars of revenue because of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Trump's problems are compounded by the fact that because of the pandemic and the short timeline, finding another host city that won't insist on the same restrictions that Charlotte has laid down is going to be a tough get. A political convention can't be slapped together on the fly, which is how Trump likes to do things. It's important to him that something comes off far more than how it comes off. He'll just lie about glitches and an amateurish production after the fact, because putting together the details bores him.

The truth is Trump is in a very weak position to make any demands, and North Carolina knows it. So he falls back on his old reliable schtick of bluster and bitching. Only the most foolish of his supporters are buying it anymore.

drink from a punchbowl all night long. Then, embrace in some songs where loud and spittle-tossing winger singers let the crowd get really close to the stage. Then, all day long conferences in tightly packed, closed door meetings.
