Update on my friend Jimmy - COVID 19 survivor

He is back in the office getting his stuff back to running right after 60 days out.

I sent him an email about how hard it must of been to pry him off the couch. That of course was a joke - He spent 12 days on a respirator and 17 days total in the hospital before being sent home.

Here is the story if you want to read it - https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213331589

Here's his reply:

It's good to be back, although I didn't spend much time on the couch. I've been walking, up to two miles a day now, and going to physical therapy 3 days a week. I'm exercising 5 days a week on my own too. It's taking a lot to restore my strength and stamina

I want to point out that Jim NEVER smoked, stayed in pretty good shape and hardly drank a drop, and he still almost died and took 9+ weeks to recover.

I have a hard time not spitting into the face of people who say NCV 19 is fake.

After all I have few enough friends that I can't take almost losing one lightly

I won't see him in person until the all clear - our command is capped at 50% in office at a time (5 days teleworking out of 10 duty days) and we are on alternate days.

Any way. Happy news

Yep these ding dongs who think Covid-19 is no worse than a run of the mill flu, aggravate me to no end, as well.

Some idiot in our local rag about a month ago wrote in to say that they (the news media) should quit interviewing these folks who have had bad cases of it, because all they’re doing is inducing panic. ?!

I want to SCREAM when I hear people say it’s just the flu or only the old/sick can get it.
Friend had it. Her husband is a meat plant inspector. The whole family got it although no one was horribly sick and the kids were asymptomatic but tested positive. Her daughter goes to the same school as my grandkids. Thank god Gov Wolf closed the schools when he did.

I had pneumonia last winter. Mild case, wasn't hospitalized. Doctor told me it would take 3 months to get back to normal,
and it sure did.
Sounds like your friend is determined to beat it and is getting the help he needs.

And we're retired from the Air Force - So we have Tricare.

It isn't even close to the "free healthcare for life" that all Reagan Era retirees were promised, but it is very good insurance.

Annual individual cap is $3k or $5k for family + retiree. So his out of pocket costs won't bankrupt him.

The actual hit for his treatment has to be close to $200k i would think

in my ACA health because in December I figured I would not need medical so much and took the risk so I could increase dental and work on that part of my body. Did all the stuff for body in 2019. Doing eyes in 2020, lol. Point is, who knew this would happen. I am glad to hear he will mostly be covered on this.

I will always think of him as “Jimmy Covid - Survivor”! (Misread your title the first time)

Wishing him a speedy recovery.
