A massive crime against this nation by the 1%

A massive crime against this nation by the 1%

by David Atkins

As we watch Republicans claim that tax cuts for the rich are the only way to stimulate the economy, and both parties cower before the Bond Vigilantes, it's important to remember this:

The fact that the Dow is at over 13,500 but unemployment remains above 8% is proof of a massive crime against this nation by the 1%. It may be "legal" crime, but it's a crime nonetheless.

American corporations are doing just fine, amassing record profits. The American people are not, enduring continuing economic pain. That alone should destroy the entire conservative and neoliberal economic program. It has no functional basis for continuing to exist except to benefit the very richest among us.

The rich contribute a large portion of the nation's taxes. You don't want to have a taxation system that backfires by inducing the rich to leave (and thus paying fewer or no taxes - if such is the case.....I don't know), and therefore in fact causes your tax revenue to go down.

... we saw soooo many of them leave during the Clinton administration (when their tax rates were what Obama proposes) and the flights leaving this country were loaded for YEARS in the 50s (when the top tax bracket was 90%+).

Yup. History is just FILLED with examples of diaspora of the wealthy. Uh-huh.

Is there a historical precedent of a certain tax threshold causing wealthy people to begin emigrating and renouncing their citizenship? Perhaps it hasn't happened yet, but if it hit a certain rate would it happen? There's an exit tax though, I think, with revoking citizenship.

.....it can't call itself an American company anymore. Make them go to a Chinese court for their patents and contracts.

Also tell them to look into what happened to that food and safety guy in the Chinese government who took bribes from 1%ers and ask them if his replacement is gonna do the same...

it will open a niche market for enterprising entrepreneurs. Competition will return to our system. Maybe them leaving is for the best, for realz.

Wall Street being the crossroads of the corporate world.

Whoever legalized corporations should have forseen that these limited liability, unfeeling, greed machines would eventually devour everything in the name of record profits.

In fact it's killing us economically. The only thing that has caused this economic turmoil we're in is massive theft and flat out greed. Unless we turn against the corporate criminals and raiders like Bain Capital - we'll get worse in that coming decades.

But Mitt is the perfect candidate for the vulture class - he's a bland, boring, white bread, white collar criminal who made a huge fortune - but was in no way shape or form honest. If he's elected - it will cement the idea that what the vultures are doing is ok - and that will be very dangerous.
