(26,355 posts)It's damned fun to watch the proteges of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove turn their evil genius to a deserving target. And their tactics are damned effective.

(26,355 posts)You're not wrong - Rick Wilson and Steve Schmidt are frenemies that allied with us, but only for this election cycle.
In any case, it's a good chance to learn.

(22,216 posts)To us, he needs to be running ads all over the place. However there are still primaries left and it is best if the official Democratic Party ads start running the week of the Convention, or the minute the last primary is done. After that, all bets are off.
I have a feeling Democratic PACS will be at the gate ready to go. Make no mistake, I also feel our gloves need to come off and these ads are paving the way. This may be where & when Bloomberg starts showing us what he promised to do (he may already be dumping $$ into PACS - you never know for sure about those).
Right now, these ads are designed to present the utter awfulness of this administration and their hatred of what is being done to this nation, and they are very effective. They are such a good foundation for what we will see after the Convention(s) and these folks are in the prime position to make these points.
The ads from our PACS and the Party will be able to do side by side comparisons, and make more specific points from a Democratic point of view. Endorsements by well known, loved and respected Democratic office holders (past and present) from former POTUS down to Mayors and City Councils can be included. (also popular non political figures especially at the state and local level)

(10,819 posts)The Lincoln Project is taking no prisoners. A time for choosing:
America or Trump
Says everything that needs to be said.
And the imagery taken right from the streets? No where to hide, Donnie. No lie big enough.

(21,312 posts)can't help wondering what their motives are. Are they trying to salvage the Publican party? Make it look better so that can come back with their own despicable policies?
Biden will most likely be a one term president due to his age. After he has spent 4 years cleaning up the Trump mess, the members of the Lincoln Project will emerge smelling like roses, ready to put their own candidate into the WH.
Sure, it's good that they are bringing down the orange tyrant, but 4 years from now, they will use that same ad skill against us. So don't get too comfy seeing them as heroes.

(86,309 posts)on saving the nation. We need all hands on deck. When the dust settles, trust is going to be a pricey commodity and people will be wary while trying to transform the social structure. Who knows? Perhaps things will change in such a way that the old ways of governing by cheating and dirty elections go away.

(21,312 posts)in government, things will look better when the dust settles.
But I cannot ever forget that Rove's dirty tricks gave us Junior, Cheney, and an unnecessary war.

(10,819 posts)I'm neither thinking about 4 years down the line yet nor what the Never-Trumpers will do after the election.
Right now? They're on the same side, our side: saving the country from Trump and his enablers. That has to be the primary concern because the damage is real and mounting. Another 4 years of this shit and there won't be any country to save. Not one that's recognizable, that is, and certainly not anything approaching a democratic Republic.
Will Rick Wilson and the rest of the Lincoln Project become good little Democrats? Of course, not. But these are strange times that invite strange bedfellows. At the moment and until the November election, anyone who desperately wants to see Trump ousted, humiliated and held accountable for these last miserable 3+ years, I consider an ally, not hero.
After the election, after the dust blows away, we can all reassess and fall back into our political trenches.
Biden may or may not be a one-term president. That's for him and his health to decide.
The main thing right now is making sure he's taking the oath in January 2021.

(244 posts)I totally agree with you. I hate to say this, but there are no good Republicans. By now, the "good" ones have left
Their long-term objective seems to be trying to salvage the Republican Party. I think it's too late for that -- ultimately, their best bet is to try to make connections with the relatively conservative "Third Way" faction of Democrats and jockey for position as the Republican Party implodes after which the Democratic Party is likely to fission after a brief period of dominance (much like the "Era of Good Feeling" followed by a reshuffling into Whigs-vs-Democrats in the period between the War of 1812 and the Civil War).

(21,312 posts)presence in the WH, and a dominant Dem presence in Congress. That's my point, actually. These allies in the Lincoln Project are very temporary. They see the tide turning and are positioning themselves for the future.
We have some very impressive leaders in our party, from Biden and Pelosi to Warren, Schumer, Schiff, and more. They represent our values as Dems and as Americans. They bring experience and wisdom to their positions. But they are not immortal.
I am definitely not devaluing the importance of age and experience. I am a senior myself. But for the sake of posterity, we need to look to the future to sustain the improvements and changes that Biden will bring. If he holds two terms, more power to him. I will stand by him. But he might choose not to run a second time. He almost didn't run this time.
We do know that our temporary allies today will seek to put their own in the WH and Congress after Biden. They will try to make him a one term president. Their replacement model will be to undo whatever President Biden accomplishes. Be certain of that. Today, he is to them merely a means to cleanse their party of Trump.
So, in order to maintain and preserve what President Biden does, we need to look to who will succeed him, whether in 4 years or 8. We need to support and encourage up and coming Dems. We need to keep an active support of Biden and our values and principles strong and alive throughout his term(s) and beyond by embracing younger people in our party. Who will follow him? We cannot allow his accomplishments to be turned back as Trump, McConnell, and the rest have tried to do with Obama's achievements.

Until then, keep up the excellent and well-deserved hatchet jobs, Lincoln Project. There is no one more deserving than Trump, and there is no one better than a Republican to destroy someone.
