https://www.yahoo.com/news/americans-loading-guns-ammo-wake-153936309.htmlAn AT&T store across from her apartment in Buckhead, Georgia, was ransacked, Rambert said. And owning a gun would give her a greater sense of safety.
"During the times we're living in, you just never know what might happen," Rambert said.
She was met with long lines at two nearby gun shops when she went to purchase a pistol. "At first, I was surprised at the number of people, but I was happy to see so many of us exercising our amendments," Rambert said.
She is part of a wave of Americans shopping for firearms as protests erupt across the country triggered by the death of 46-year-old George Floyd, who was unarmed when a white police officer pinned him to the ground with a knee to his neck.
Gun and ammunition sales have lifted since mid-March when the pandemic was declared. And higher-than-average sales continued through May. Now, there are signs that gun sales may start to surge again in June.

It would fit with what I have seen locally at stores that sell firearms. I've seen up to 50 of buyers are minorities at some places

People lined up outside Martin Retting store in Culver City, Ca. on Sunday, March 15. The store sells sporting goods, including guns and knives. The line extended past the store front. (Francine Orr/Los Angeles Times)
At Martin B. Retting Gun Shop in Culver City, a line of prospective customers stretched outside the door. Inside, they were shoulder to shoulder, waiting up to five hours for service. A fast-food truck was taking orders at the curb.

(31,261 posts)A homeless mom got one of those nightly stay hotel rooms. She owned a gun and was handling it. The gun went off and killed her two year old child. Now, that wonan was clearly struggling, but she was trying to keep her child. My guess is every day that she awakes now, she wishes that she had never seen a gun.

(31,261 posts)Those people in that line, regardless of when the picture was taken, likely will buy a gun during any stressful period, a big hurricane coming, post hurricane or tornado. That is their right, but unfortunately many are likely to use the gun on themselves or kill a close family member by accident.
In the event of a riot or other chaos, what good is a gun to them? If they are lucky they will likely shoot one person, then have the others set the building on fire with them trapped inside. It is safer to help bring about a just society that removes the flash points that bring about chaos, but I doubt that any of those people think that deeply.
