The Push For Theocracy Is A Real Threat To the Viability Of This Nation

The religious right is a determined foe. They have made it clear that they will replace the Constitution with a bible based government no matter how long it takes. The fact that R$R are just about bowing in subservience to the values voters crowd is pretty alarming. And I do feel that what they have to deliver if they win is much more than anyone expects.

The religious fanatics in this country are a bigger danger than even the terrorists. The fact that over 1000 religious based bills have been proposed or passed since 2010 should force us all to take notice. And lets just call it what it is. The GOP supports a white supremacist Christian nation. And they are desperate to win.

A nation of religious warriors. Yep, nothing to see there... Of course it's anti-American. That's why they hate Obama, he's still hanging on to the ideas of the Founders. There's so much money in making war, it's all great for the owners whose kids won't be sent to war.

When I was born, 1939, there was no TV, Internet and all the modern devices of today. I have a hard time remembering my early years but when I do, I do not remember religion being so important. It's downright scary to see so many negative changes in this area over the years.

As far as I can tell, the right either needs to win this election, or to lose it in such a spectacular manner as to provide a repudiation of the corporate and religious right. If they do not see an opportunity for victory, the loss can still hold utility, if it is employed as a cause to purge that extreme group that has assumed dominance over the party. If there are any conservatives that are distressed over where the party has drifted, this loss becomes their opportunity to bring it back into a more sober and moderate form. Failure of Romney to lose spectacularly, condemns to party to be a shrill and extreme political body appealing to increasingly ignorant zealotry. Not the kind of people they like to have at their parties, in their club or on their golf course. The usefulness of the religious right may have been exhausted politically, but to rid themselves of that group and have a chance to win in the future, this election cycle must function as an opportunity to purge the republican party. Again, if that is the best utilization of the opportunity, they must lose in a convincing fashion, such that it can be perceived as a repudiation of the theocratic path.

I wonder if Mitt is up to sacrificing himself for the good of his party? If so, and the scenario imagined has validity, we should see an increasingly self destructive campaign.

on WHICH brand of Christianity to adopt (there are so many!), or just how "white" do men have to be -- obviously 1/2 wasn't want they wanted, so how much 1/32 - 1/64? As much as "they" may want to institute a theocracy, they will simply be lost in the details and never be able to make it happen. (or am I just whistling past the graveyard here?)

It portrays a right-wing totalitarian theocracy in the near future. Compulsory pregnancy and the ultra-criminalization of abortion are central features of the society.

Our future is not Theocracy. In fact, our future is probably more Socialist of a government.

There will remain large numbers of right-wing christofascists, but their time has passed and their numbers are shrinking. Those still carrying the banner are louder and more obnoxious than they have been since the witch trials, but they are slowing going to fade into the background that they were pre- the Christian Coalition.

The numbers of regular church goers is shrinking, and the current generation coming of age has more atheists. Numbers are trending the right direction.

We do have to guard, in the short-term, against a small but very determined group stealing the reins of power.
