(23,867 posts)I've been reviewing everything from A Tribe Called Quest to Yo la tengo to The Vaselines, Zappa, Beefheart. It's great having youtube.
But I caught a live show of the Melvins, and finally caught on to the diversity of the bass. Deutrom is really good.
I was too scared to start a band in 1979 when I lived with the perfect group of people to do it. I don't want to go back in time. But if I did, I sure as hell would have started that band.
And I thought bass was for thumping out a rhythmic line. Sheesh, where was my creativity.
By the way, in the early 80's I played trumpet in a band with Mike Watt. I remember saying to myself that this was finally a musician who could play bass. Years of being in bands with lame musicians. But still, that was jazz. So it doesn't count. Haha.

(8,646 posts)Until I watched The Voice. I mean, I knew who he was, but kind of dismissed him as a kind of 'boy band' manufactured sound thing. In watching the show I see I was wrong. This tweet makes me like him even more.
Spazito
(49,733 posts)as well as his honesty in how they can improve, what to work on, etc. My daughter 'made' me go on YouTube and check out him and his group after she got me hooked on The Voice, she is quite the taskmaster when it comes to trying to keep her Mom somewhat updated, lol.

Levine stripped naked for testicular cancer awareness for a centerfold in Cosmopolitan UK's February 2011 issue.[22]
During Levine's teenage years, he was medically diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. In 2011, he launched an educational campaign to raise awareness of ADHD, titled "Own It".[23]
Levine, whose brother is openly gay, is an outspoken supporter of LGBT rights.[24] In 2011, he made a video[25] on Maroon 5's official YouTube account in support of the It Gets Better Project. In January 2012, he announced that Maroon 5 had changed the location of their post-Grammy Awards show because of the "unnamed Los Angeles restaurant's backing of Proposition 8".[2

I remember a very close friend of mine getting a fan tailed goldfish tattooed on her lower abdomen back in the mid-70's. That was really daring back then. She got pregnant and by the 8th month it looked like Moby Dick and afterwards never did look right.

(5,842 posts)Last I knew they were a right wing owned conglomerate as well whose ownership strongly supports Republican causes.
These musicians know that FOX bought a license that allows them to play whatever they choose for a fee to the licensing company. But I guess cheap publicity is easier to aim for than consistency.

(24,411 posts)Can you imagine being an artist and tuning into Fox News and hearing your music being played on their disgusting, offensive lie fest for dummies???
I can't even imagine the level of disgust that I would feel! Levin has the right to verbalized his disdain when Fox plays his music. I seriously doubt he's doing this for attention. He's genuinely pissed.
I'm happy to see him speak out.

(17,301 posts)Does NOT mean every song in the world is included in that package. Much like a cable TV package, the more you pay the more you get.
And also (to quote Palin), even though a packaged license deal may include a song, the original creator of that song may have retained some rights to it and CAN demand that it not be used in inappropriate settings. It all depends on the contract and our courts are regularly churning out rulings on contract disputes.
