They're 88. Actually, I'm on Social Security and Medicare, and my wife will be on both when she picks up a few more years. Fuck Romney, and the horse he rode in on.

my dad's on a fixed income with Medicare. He's a rightwinger who recently ranted to me about the "47% of people in US who don't pay taxes!" He gave me the deer-in-the-head-light look when I kindly pointed out to him that he did not pay taxes last year. "Well, raise my G*ddamned taxes then!" I try to step lightly - my dad has had a stroke and though I love him dearly, his Fox News driven political arguments are so exasperating! He's 81.

I'm with you, MineralMan!

We have to fight the battle for them now. They fought their own battles in their time.

At some point, we have to just hug them and show them that we just care.

My father had a stroke 2 years ago, and in caring for him over the last 2 years, I have become closer to him. Yes, he's annoying with his political arguments but we have come to some measure of understanding. He has a good heart and if we don't let tempers flare (he and I have never really had that kind of relationship so I am lucky there) we come away a little closer having gained a new perspective on some matters and more importantly about each other. I worry sometimes that he is so isolated and he gets caught up in Fox News and he is horrible online, landing on every crazy website and having a tendency to believe all that is written!

Anyhoo, your sentiments were lovely and I thank you. They are a timely reminder, as none of us are getting any younger.
