10,000 turn out to see first lady

First lady Michelle Obama already had won the adoration Monday night from the roughly 10,000 people who packed the Civic Center to see her.

The majority of those in the line that wrapped from the south entrance of the Civic Center to Madison Street and then north along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to College Avenue got soaked by a passing storm, but it did little to stop them.

“It’s just a little rain and it’s still worth it,” said Tallahassee resident Jarvis Rosier as he plucked his drenched shirt from his body. “We’re here to support the first lady.”

The first lady also drew more than 10,000 people earlier on Monday in Gainesville, but Tallahassee Mayor John Marks said he hoped the Civic Center crowd would be larger.
