The religious right has nothing in common with religion at all. There agenda is more about power and the "White Christian? totalitarian state. ALL of their views on the domestic and cultural side are the antithesis of the New Testament and Christ. He simply would not recognize them.
Because they have chosen to make religion part of political agenda and litmus test for holding office in the US they are fair game for criticism and counter attack. By melding religion and government the way they have they have forfeited their right to immunity.
They have crossed the line where their pseudofaith has become a business of selling salvation and hope for money and mega wealth.
That means that these churches should be fully taxed like anyone else. They demand that public policy be based on religious beliefs rather than sound public policy. Romney and the GOP as well as big business are their conduit to political power that is essentially unconstitutional.
Their moral depravity is evidenced by the fact that they want to abolish all domestic programs that they themselves would not support at their level. It is fundamentally immoral and even amoral to deny the basics of life to the disabled, the sick and the infirm in our society. That denial is exactly what their policies would do to the most vulnerable. Their stand makes them unAmerican and a public enemy.
As a nation of conscience we must deny them any avenue to political power. There must be a clear and enforceable separation of church and state. And we must make it clear that they will be given no choice.

(16,113 posts)Which religious belief is the one that tells them "to deny the basics of life to the disabled, the sick and the infirm in our society." I don't see that anywhere in the bible.

(602 posts)"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?" --- John Adams, letter to F.A. Van der Kamp, Dec. 27, 1816
"In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot ... they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purpose." --- Thomas Jefferson, to Horatio Spafford, March 17, 1814
"Is uniformity attainable? Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced an inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth." --- Thomas Jefferson, from "Notes on Virginia"
"What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not." --- James Madison, "A Memorial and Remonstrance", 1785
"Christian religion merged with government is a good recipe for rat shit soup." -- Jessy169

(25,699 posts)Now you could go around and around whether that morality aligns with Christian morality, but you'd need some sort of set standard to judge that by... and standardizing morality is like trying to nail jello to a wall.
Ethics, however, are pretty standardized, regardless of religion, upbringing, nationality, whatever. The main goal of any religion is to subvert the ethical thoughts of its members and replace it with "morality," which mostly exists in conflict with ethics. I could go into detail, but it's a bit off-topic. Point is, these people are acting in full accordance with their own moral beliefs, which are not your moral beliefs, and which violate some fairly standard rules of ethical behavior as well.

(39,215 posts)at all and in doing so they have cooped ethical/moral ideals shared by many of the people of the world into some kind of absolute rules for life. From my experience religion has been more about forgiveness and concern for others - but then I am not a rw chistian.
