The Republican National Committee on Wednesday responded quickly to a surprising new poll from Marquette University Law School that shows President Barack Obama opening up a 14-point lead in Wisconsin. Nicole Tieman, the RNC's communications director in Wisconsin, released a statement that seeks to highlight Obama's desperation to retain a state that was once solidly in his column.
Wisconsin is a crucial swing state that the Obama Campaign is clearly worried about losing. The President turned his back on his most loyal supporters during the recall election, has been absent from the state for over 200 days, and has implemented policies that have made Wisconsinites worse off. Now, after seeing the growing Republican momentum and enthusiastic support for Governor Romney and Congressman Ryans plan to strengthen Wisconsins small business and middle class families, the President is scrabbling to regain the support hes lost since the 2008 election. President Obamas upcoming visit to Milwaukee, paired with ad buys to be released next week show a President desperate to hang on to a state his campaign once thought was safely in their camp. In November, Wisconsin voters will choose a new direction and prove them wrong.

Yesterday we enjoyed Elizabeth Warren's surge in her Senate race in Massachusetts (another poll today added to Scott Brown's bad news). She isn't the only great Democrat enjoying a post-convention renaissance. The Senate race in Wisconsin between Democrat Tammy Baldwin and Republican Tommy Thompson has been turned upside down in a single week:

Actually, that release smacks of desperation, and it likely has to do with Ryan being unable to help Mitt in WI.
Maybe the people of WI took this to mean Ryan thinks Mitt is going to lose.

(18,402 posts)I don't get the argument here.
This poll may be way too optimistic. But even if he's up by only 4, say, how is him winning a poll a sign that he's desperate? This response sounds desperate to me.

If you see a Republican mention this in this poll, remind them of this about Marquette polls..

(116,464 posts)people, including enough Democrats, voted for Walker because they didn't agree with a recall over a policy difference.
Thanks for the info.

(1,185 posts)...we thought it was a done deal.
Caution appropriate and well-taken. But I do note that Paul Ryan is shifting his focus to his home base. That does speak to the national election, perhaps. Doubt it's done him too much damage at home, but then there are the debates...which may unearth inconvenient facts that affect his home base, re Medicare, Medicaid and SS.
I may be a Democrat, but frankly, if a Democrat was threatening to so blatantly threaten or take away my livlihood, I'd be hard pressed to vote for them.
Just sayin'

(51,076 posts)He'd have to really fuck up right now to make a difference. He's shown America and the world for that matter that he is the man for the times. Once someone starts thinking that its hard to change their minds. Its kinda like when you go to work for someone new and you work your ass off for a while and then no matter who comes along later saying no matter what no one is going to be able to tell the boss you aren't a hard worker. I know I've done it just to check out my theory.
