Well if you are a democrat that is!!
The Obama bump is starting to kick in for the senate races:
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2012/Senate/Maps/Sep18-s.html
WISCONSIN: AHEAD!!!
MONTANA: AHEAD!!!
MASSACHUSETTS: AHEAD!!!
INDIANA: AHEAD!!!
VIRGINIA: AHEAD!!!
We got close races in Tennessee, Arizona, Connecticut and Nevada - I think we should be able to win some of those states too!
Then we have the Maine situation - let's hope Angus King, a progressive, sides with us. He's remaining coy but he is an obama supporter.
If the elections were held today it would be 51-46-2 with the tie in Connecticut. THe 2 would be Sanders, who sides with Dems and hopefully King who will also side with us!
Folks we have GOT to start talking more about these senate races!!!

Also I expect a net +45 on the House D side, which means we retake the House, and end the careers of many Republicans.

(12,882 posts)I hope we DO take all three branches and RUN with them! But IF that happens, we're gonna owe a debt of gratitude (whether we like it or not) to the Tea Party. It's been their monkey-wrenching of the GOP that's set it tumbling and stumbling. Who knows if the GOP will EVER recover from it's froolish embracement of the haters that make up the TP and the Religious Right. I sure hope they don't come back to reality until we Dems get a chance to solidly and permanently hand the nation back to "The People".

(95,337 posts)Had that been a somewhat sane republican it might have turned out differently. I think Nevadans were worried they'd have a total idiot as their US Senator with Sharron Angle and in the end some moderate republicans and independents also went with Reid.

(16,685 posts)All our statewide offices are currently held by Dems. It's a very Libertarian state. Obama is not popular and up until 2010 our legislature was pretty much split down the middle. The pukes rode the wave of anti-Obama and anti-Obamacare and killed us in the state legislature. We also have an attorney general (Steve Bullock, who is running for Governor) that has been trying to defend our campaign laws against the onslaught of corporate money. The Democrat who is running to replace him is Pam Bucy and she is facing an unprecedented amount of corporate money against her. The one saving grace that I think we have here this particular election season is that people are NOT happy about the corporate money and the attack on our campaign laws. There is a symbolic ballot initiative that is anticipated to pass that will be condemning Citizens United.
Pam Bucy, in particular can use all the help that anyone can give. http://pambucy.com/
We also have a decent shot to take the MOntana congressional seat. A recent poll put Democrat Kim Gillan only 3 points behind the Republican for the open seat being vacated by Dennis Rehberg, who is running against Tester. This has put our congressional race on the radar for national Democratic organizations. http://www.gillanforcongress.com/

(95,337 posts)Thing is this - Dems don't demand 100% loyality to the party. They've always tried to keep that open tent that would allow people like Manchin from WV or the Nelsons (both NE and FL although NE is retiring) to serve as democrats even though many times they would vote against us.
A long time ago our representatives in congress use to vote in a way that would best serve their states and NOT based on Lobbying dollars. We need that kind of congress again but I think the tea party has ruined it for the GOP.
And btw welcome to DU

(6,160 posts)The Democratic candidate, Mark Clayton, is actually an anti-gay tea party nut. He has been denounced by the state Democratic Party. He won 30% of the vote in a seven person primary. The state party chairman has urged Democrats to wage a write-in campaign "for a candidate of their choice" in the Nov. 6 general election.
He is running against Bob Corker.
Right now it appears we have two choices and both are bad.

He also was one of the first to step out against saving the auto industry because he was protecting Nissan's interests, and was willing to help throw out the pensions and health benefits for long-term factory workers of north if that is what it took.
Don't get me wrong, I have two Nissans, but I strongly supported saving the jobs of workers in Detroit and the other states involved in manufacturing cars. There is room for both in these United States.
Nissan at that time was ticked off because the union was starting to influence workers at Nissan factories in Tennessee to unionize. Nissan couldn't have any of that.

Clayton was nominated because his was the first name on the list, period. I knew enough to vote for Park Overall, but, honestly, I didn't see not ONE ad explaining who the candidates were and the only independent articles regarding the candidates were sparse.
