Is Jesse Jackson Jr., going to retire from the House?
He's selling his DC townhouse.
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who has been on a medical leave of absence for three months, has put his Victorian-style townhouse in Washington, D.C. on the market for $2.5 million.
Jackson, a South Side Democrat, recently left the Mayo Clinic where he was treated for bipolar disorder. His leave began June 10 and he has not returned to the Capitol. Before entering Mayo, the congressman was treated at Sierra Tucson, a treatment facility in Arizona.
In a statement, Jackson chief of staff Rick Bryant indicated that his health care expenses contributed to the decision to sell the home.
"Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring healthcare costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations," the statement read. "The congressman would like to personally thank everyone who has offered prayers on behalf of his family."
