CBO: Health care penalty to hit 6 million people

The Congressional Budget Office estimated today that nearly 6 million people will have to pay a penalty for not obtaining health insurance once President Obama's health care law is full in place.

That's a 2 million increase over a previous estimate.

The average penalty is estimated at nearly $1,200.

The requirement that nearly all Americans buy some form of health insurance goes into effect starting in 2014.

and if they can't afford it, they can probably qualify for subsidy. And don't forget about those governors whom are fighting against the Medicaid expansion that can help provide expanded coverage for lower-income folks. Seriously, most people can get it through their jobs or are already covered by their jobs, so it wouldn't even apply. And if your rich and don't want health insurance, then you can just pay the penalty. Big deal.

My mom doesn't work and my dad barely survives paycheck to paycheck on less than $30,000 a year.

I can't find information on any website about if they will be affected and no one ever seems to have a valid answer.

I think that the subsidy qualifications are actually quite high from what I remember hearing awhile back. I think that I remember that my wife and I might even qualify and we're making between $60-70K
