Mike Pence unveils his three-step plan to combat child poverty in Indiana...

One of the plan's steps: no children out of wedlock. Seriously.
Yeah, Mike...let's see how that one works out.

"...But Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor Vi Simpson said the program reeks of hypocrisy.

"His whole proposal is about reducing the number of children born to unmarried parents," said Simpson. "What a hypocrite, when his entire Congressional career has been about withholding birth control to those very same single poor women."

Pence wants to require all state agencies to provide a Family Impact Statement on any new rules or regulations they propose, to put more money into school vouchers and continue what he calls the progress at the Department of Child Services.

But Simpson said it would make government more costly and divert more money from public schools.

"It would be ideal if everybody was in a two-parent household, and all children graduated from high school, and all children found a wonderful job out of school, and all children were born within the structure of marriage. But that's not the reality," Simpson said.

Simpson also criticized Pence for praising the DCS, which she called a total failure."
