Consider the Lincoln Project: the hard-hitting ads are fun to watch, but the most effective stuff they do is put up personal testimonials (by former Trump voters) about how Trump's actions (and inaction) have affected them. This ad from Biden is in the second group.

I haven’t seen my parents or sisters in a year (work, injuries & in-law obligations kept either of us from traveling from last August until March, and then Covid).
Six months had been the longest I’d ever, ever gone without seeing them, for the past 20 years.

My 6-year-old daughter has only seen her aunts & grandparents on a computer screen, for a year.
My nephew has aged from 1 to 2, and I’ve missed the whole thing.

This hit me hard.
I think it was very effective.

personally might feel instead of seeing the purpose of the ad.

In this case it's a clear and simple reason to vote for Biden based on something many people are missing these days.

I was not suggesting that I had it particularly rough. What I was saying is that the ad will be effective with its target audience - grandparents who are cut-off from their grandchildren.

As we say in these parts, bless your heart.

I grew up as a GI brat and didn't see my grandparents for YEARS when I was overseas and there was no internet

and retiring at 60? Pipe dream for many Americans.

Sounds like a couple of privileged people whining.

nursing homes & hospitals. My God, this is a hideous virus. A close friend's daughter just had her baby couple months ago, and the baby's great-grandmother (GG) had to stand outside the glass window to see the newborn after he was brought home. My friend had the baby & her parents stay at her house, and they arranged the behind-glass-window visit both to protect the GG and the baby for fear that if they were to contract the virus, their family would not be allowed to be with either one in the hospital. My friend said it was heartbreaking to see GG's tears since the little one was her first great-grandchild and she could not hold the baby. Such is our new normal.

Trump tweeted the video with the guy yelling White Power at protesters. If so, maybe Biden is trolling Trump.

I suppose it's aimed at the sweet flowers living in walled suburbia, but it did nothing for me. This is the kind of ad they always do because they think the US is upper middle class. It's not, we've all been shoved down a class or three and we're struggling and we need to see that reflected. You know, they gave huge tax cuts to the richest and now there's nothing left for us kind of thing. Or this virus is out of control because Republicans won't listen to science.

Joe, I know you're a fighter. Lose the piano music and start hitting those motherless bastards as hard as I know you can. Our survival depends on it.

Please, this is constructive criticism, given in the spirit of wanting to win. Is anybody out there listening?

Just because that's what you want to hear doesn't mean that everyone will respond favorably to that. Biden is smart and knows he needs different messages for different audiences. He's not a one-note anger machine like Trump.

but I've heard from too many people out in workdaday land that Democrats are wimps who won't fight for anyone but the upper middle class in the walled suburbs, people have a real sense out there of being abandoned as their purchasing power has fallen year after year for decades.

He doesn't reach those people, he'll throw this away with both hands.

He really does need to lose that syrupy piano music. It's too loud and the ad would have been more effective without it.
