Like so many people, my faith has been the bedrock foundation of my life: its provided me comfort in moments of loss and tragedy, its kept me grounded and humbled in times of triumph and joy. And in this moment of darkness for our country of pain, of division, and of sickness for so many Americans my faith has been a guiding light for me and a constant reminder of the fundamental dignity and humanity that God has bestowed upon all of us.
For President Trump to attack my faith is shameful. Its beneath the office he holds and its beneath the dignity the American people so rightly expect and deserve from their leaders. However, like the words of so many other insecure bullies, President Trumps comments reveal more about him than they do about anyone else. They show us a man willing to stoop to any low for political gain, and someone whose actions are completely at odds with the values and teachings that he professes to believe in.
My faith teaches me to love my neighbor as I would myself, while President Trump only seeks to divide us. My faith teaches me to care for the least among us, while President Trump seems to only be concerned about his gilded friends. My faith teaches me to welcome the stranger, while President Trump tears families apart. My faith teaches me to walk humbly, while President Trump teargassed peaceful protestors so he could walk over to a church for a photo op.
As Ive said so many times before, were in the battle for the soul of our nation, and President Trumps decision today to profane God and to smear my faith in a political attack is a stark reminder of what the stakes of this fight truly are.

(5,447 posts)I would not have used the term "shameful" since Repukes are unable to be shamed or exhibit shame.
I would have used the term "laughable".

Will fux news try to claim Joe Biden is cognitively deficient here? That sounds just like JB, every word.

Joe and I are in total agreement....Trump is a bully, but Joe defines him further: "However like the words of so many other insecure bullies, President Trump's comments reveal more about him than they do about anyone else..

(5,810 posts)I remember the buzz about his Catholicism being an issue for some people. Our neighbors across the street would not allow a friend of mine play at their house because she was Catholic. (They were Presbyterian.) It was said by some if JFK won that the Pope would be running the country.
I honestly thought wed come a long way from those ugly days. Who thought that a good and decent man like Joe Biden could have his faith used against him by a heathen like tRump? I surely hope that the voters will be offended by the ham handed efforts of tRump to denigrate Biden over his faith.
I say this as a person who lost all the religious upbringing I had a long time ago. But to talk bad about Bidens faith is to me a low blow and simply reflects tRumps desperation as he realizes he is going to be FIRED in November. Lose Bigly, asshat.

(81,179 posts)November can't come soon enough. But we have to work like there's no tomorrow! We can't leave ANYTHING to chance.
Especially when we're up against Vladimir Putin, Roger Stone, and Bill Barr.
For starters.

(81,179 posts)THIS is the kind of thing we all need. A Consoler-in-Chief. Someone who knows pain because he's been punched in the gut. Someone who's pulled himself together even after a terrible personal loss, and soldiered on because people were depending on him. Got knocked down and pulled himself back up - and went on to overcome and even triumph.
Seems like he's EXACTLY what we need for leadership at a colossally terrible and desperate time.

(1,789 posts)All the times Joe ran for president and didn't get the nomination or when he passed on 2016 left him available for this moment when we need him the most. He will maintain his integrity and grace as he gets blasted with the same nonsensical attacks endured by both the Clintons and Obama. He is so much the diametrical opposite of Trump, it is no surprise he is doing so well.
