The nominees are already clearly known. Back before the primaries, there were lots of threads here on DU about a potential "contested" primary for the Democratic nominee. Well, that faded out PDQ. There will be a Democratic Party Platform, of course, but that's not going to matter in the 2020 election, either.
So, nominees will be named after some sort of formality of voting, either online or otherwise. We won't get all the speeches and drama associated with national political party conventions, but that's OK in the year of COVID-19.
Trump vs. Biden. That's the thing. The conventions don't matter, really, because there it is.
Who will Biden pick as the VP nominee? That doesn't really matter, either. The 2020 election is just about Biden vs. Trump. That's all. Nothing else really matters for the November 3 election.
In a way, it's sort of a relief, and lets us all focus on the crucial goal of getting enough Democrats to the polls to make it impossible for Trump supporters to steal the election. That's our job now. Less than three months from now, the election will be over. Nothing else matters.
GOTV 2020!

(6,271 posts)It was cute to watch the voting by state when we didn't know who the nominee would be. Now we know going in so it looks like a drunken party that others enjoy and the TV viewers just watch.

Our dissidents have to dissent or lose their reason for existing; so, as before, some elements of the Party agenda will be tweaked to give them something to claim as victories. As I said, pulled together and organized for the battle.
