I still cannot get my head around what is happening to my friend and the diagnosis of stage IIIc ovarian cancer. It is surreal. I think am stuck in the WTF stage.
I talked to her sister, and she called me Thursday. Her sister is dealing with it, but she is still in shock. My friend has not begun to deal with it at all.
She is supposed to leave the hospital early next week. The who, what, when and where haven't been decided. That will have to happen very soon.
I know her prognosis isn't good, but how she will feel and the timeframe are up in the air. I have the bad feeling that at the rate events are moving, it may progress very quickly. I could be wrong but.....
Going to find Dr.Buzzard to work some roots.(for everybody)
.....sigh.....

(268,913 posts)A few years ago a close friend of ours was admitted to hospital. We visited her on day 2 and she told me that she had good news and bad news. The good news was that she wouldn't have bills to pay at the end of the month and the bad news is that she had liver cancer. We knew it was liver related because she was as yellow as saffron down to her finger and toe nails. She lasted all of 11 days and the speed of her death shocked the hell out of all of us.
Hug her and make her comfortable - she may still be lucky.

(2,593 posts)Three years ago, my mother (who had never been ill) was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer. It's a tough one as symptoms are subtle until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. I was concerned for your friend when you originally said the doctor recommend she increase fiber in her diet as this was one of the main complaints my mother had before her diagnosis.
My only advice is to remain available to your friend for emotional support and gather recipes for nutritious and appealing foods to help maintain her strength through treatment. A good, supportive friend will be a comforting and important ally for her as she faces this challenge.
Hugs and best wishes to you both.

(32,079 posts)I don't know if this is any consolation, but my friend's sister was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer several years ago, and she is still alive and kicking. It's been hell to get to this point, but she's still here. I believe she has undergone a number or experimental treatments, and your friend might want to look into that to see if something is available for her. A friend of mine was diagnosed with Stage II pancreatic cancer this past fall, and she is in one such experimental study. It's going well, so far. Keeping my fingers crossed for your friend.
