President Obama VINDICATED!!!!

People are arguing that President Obama conflated the "Jedi Mind Trick" with the "Vulcan Mind Meld," in that the former is used to change another's behavior or thinking, the latter merely to read another person's mind. Well, that argument is WRONG!

The proof can be found in an episode called "Spectre of the Gun."

Go to 11:01 in the video below and watch as Spock uses the Vulcan Mind Meld as a Mind TRICK!

Spock, using the Vulcan Mind Meld, convinces the crew that "the bullets are unreal, without body. They are illusions only. Shadows without substance. They will not pass through your body for they do not exist."

Obama rocks!

EDIT: Mr. President, could you try using the powers of the mutants from "Beneath The Planet Of The Apes" to get Boner and Cantor to do this to each other:

He wasn't in that episode! (Spectre Of The Gun)

So he never got to see just what a Vulcan Mind Meld can do (besides being used to read another person's thoughts).

Now, don't get me wrong. I love George Takei!

But on this one, he just doesn't have all the facts.

.... on this period in American history ... and it will seem like science fiction.

I keep thinking of the end of The Planet Of The Apes when Taylor cries out, "You finally really did it. You maniacs! You blew it up!"

That's what the Rethugs are doing to America right now.

And let me just say, "God damn them all to hell!"

Spock convinces a guard posted outside that all of them have escaped the room, the guard then opens the door and is jumped. Its one of the funner episodes in my humble opinion.

Of course this whole argument over Obama's reference is kind of silly but I'm bored.

He called it a Jedi mind meld.

This is confusing the "Jedi mind trick" with the "Vulcan mind meld". The fact that a Vulcan mind meld can be used to influence the behavior of others means nothing.

If he had called it a "Vulcan mind trick" then you might have a point, maybe. As it is you are off base.

Not that it matters.

Trying it on the Republicans is like trying it on the gorillas.

If you recall, the mutants found the gorillas they captured were too stupid to penetrate their minds.

to ensure that belief in the utter infallibility and perfection of a political hero is maintained.

We've argued over petty semantics involving tv shows for years. It's the business about the infallibity of a mere mortal politician that's fairly new in American discourse. We defend our own at the expense of the truth constantly, but seldom has it required defending our own at the expense of the truth over truly petty, picayune and meaningless details.

Some of the responses up-thread are almost scary, along the lines of, "Ah, I knew President Obama couldnt' be wrong, even over something as insignificant as this. I'm relieved to hear the truth that shows he is right and so vicariously I am also right."
