Here are the Senators pushing Kerry to approve the Keystone pipeline

Hoeven continues push for Keystone approval

By Jerry Burnes

Continuing his push for the Keystone XL Pipeline, Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) appealed to new Secretary of State John Kerry for approval by the end of March.

Hoeven and Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) authored a letter signed by a bipartisan group of senators asking Kerry make the pipeline a timely priority. Keystone has been under review for more than four years.

<...>

“The Keystone XL pipeline will supply both energy from our closest friend and partner and create jobs in the United States,” the letter stated. “Further delay will continue to hurt job creation and may damage our relationship with Canada. We cannot afford more delay.”

<...>

The letter was signed by Senators Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Kay Hagan (D- N.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), David Vitter (R-La.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.).

1. What do you mean pushing? It's his baby now.

The last word before the President would do it will come from him.
So it's his responsibility.

He gave up his senate seat, so he lost the power to just vote no.
I am sure in the end President Obama will do what his trusted aide says on this issue.

This is after all, why he wanted being SOS, wasn't it?

"What do you mean pushing? "

...see the letter linked to in the OP.

I mean, I understand that Kerry will likely be making a decision, but just as environmentalist are pushing the President to reject the project, there are those who are pushing in support of it.

Do you undertand that concept?

"He gave up his senate seat, so he lost the power to just vote no."

Are you in another world? Seriously.

5. So the 'assessment' of Keystone that Hillary orchestrated to reflect her approval for Keystone deal
Sat Mar 2, 2013, 07:13 PM
Mar 2013

is now Kerry's 'assessment' even though we all know Kerry, himself, was against Keystone.

Kerry accepted Sec of State knowing he would be stuck taking the hits to protect another Clinton in the hopes of doing good down the road. THAT'S how it works, and all your BS and spin won't change what the rest of us know.

It takes a real jackass to pretend that Kerry deserved to take the backlash that belongs to Hillary for a deal she spent four years orchestrating.

7. John Kerry "could" STAND UP...

..and say "NO",
that he has reviewed the studies, and believes they warrant further research...

...but he won't.
So John Kerry will DESERVE the backlash for being a go-along-to-get-along ,
and Take-one-for-The-Team wimp.

8. I expect he took the position knowing he'd be stuck signing deals made by Hillary on this.

I saw it February 2012 and again in December when Bill Clinton was going around DC urging Dem lawmakers to accept the Keystone deal. Hillary had the deal done LONG ago. The timing was scheduled to give herself maximum protection for the 2016 primary.

The way Kerry operates, he's prepared to take the slings and arrows with the expectation that he will soon be able to promote a greater good down the road.

You're the perfect one to keep us all informed of the big changes at State.
Maybe we'll start supporting the REAL populist democracies emerging in Latin America, and stop financing the remaining Right Wing Police States?

..or maybe our national policy of supporting the Settlements and Apartheid for the Palestinians will get a revamp?

The problem with State is that our Foreign Policy NEVER changes...
Democrat...Republican.... Condi Rice, Bolton, Hillary...
they ALL read from the same script, and have done so for over 60 years.

John Kerry as Sec of State has been effectively castrated by the Obama White House,
not that he was making a lot of waves in the Senate lately,
but you keep us informed about the big changes at State.
OK?

...nonsense. Lumping Kerry in with Condi Rice and Bolton is silly.

One noticeable change is that Kerry is articulating the need for diplomacy and peace in ways that haven't been done in years.

In Rome, Secretary Kerry Announces Nonlethal Assistance to Syria

Stop four of Secretary Kerry's Europe trip landed him in Rome and culminated with an announcement of $60 million in non-lethal assistance to strengthen the organizational capacity of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC). With this announcement, the United States is now providing more than $115 million in non-lethal support for the civilian opposition. As liberated areas across Syria struggle to rebuild their communities without the support of the central government, this additional assistance will enable the SOC to help enhance the capacity of local councils and communities so they can expand the delivery of basic goods and essential services, fulfill administrative functions, and extend the rule of law.

Significantly, the Secretary also announced that the United States would extend the provision of food rations and medical kits to the opposition, including the Supreme Military Council, in order to feed those in need and to tend to the sick and wounded.

In Secretary Kerry's words: "We do this because we need to stand on the side of those in this fight who want to see Syria rise again in unity and see a democracy and human rights and justice."

So.....I do expect more of him than I did Hillary who I knew would keep Poppy Bush's course as much as possible.

I hope Obama relies more on Kerry's sensibilities than the preserving of Poppy Bush's idea of world order.

those who want to highlight that a deal that had been already arranged for FOUR YEARs by Sec of State Clinton will be stuck on the legacy of a man who was always against the deal, just so she can have an easier time of it during her 2016 primary race.

I have no doubt Kerry accepted Sec of State knowing he would have to take the hits for Clinton in hopes of performing a greater good down the road.

President Obama's team includes all democratic people. That is why he won a landslide two times running.
He had the Kennedy's backing, and he had JK's backing. And he had Hillary's backing.
That is who winners get seated.
When people say where is the change, just look there and see how it is different now than in 1968, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2004.
All democratic people are on the same side.

'nuff said. Will be interesting to see what happens with this issue. It's never boring.

All the 'assessments' done were part of the dog and pony show.

Kerry went into position knowing this was a done deal, and likely thinks he can be part of some greater good later on.

Get real, blue....read up on the last 4 years of this deal and then try and claim that Clinton didn't get the 'assessment' she wanted to put through to Obama's desk.
