"I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half."

This quote is generally attributed to an 19th century railroad tycoon named Jay
Gould, but sadly his robber-baron creed is far from dead. In fact, it is very much
alive and well, hiding behind dark SCOTUS robes decreeing that that "corporations
are people". And the results have been predictably draconian.

This is precisely what is so compelling for the 1%, to push the "Terrorist" meme,
is that it provides "cover" for 1% to "lawfully" hire 1/2 the working class..." to
oppress, neutralize, eliminate whoever it wants to, in broad daylight with impunity,
because, well, because they can; and it's "profitable" from their standpoint to do
so.
After all, that's what unfettered corporate capitalism does best, destroy lives,
pollute the air, water, and soil, trample the rights of citizens, extort money from
the poor, etc. and then to crush anyone who questions their authority to do so.
See Chris Hedges, if you haven't already heard him out on this.

The more time that passes, since Jay Gould, since the 1985 movie by Terry Gilliam
"Brazil" prophetically predicted our sham "War on Terror", 16 years before 911 kicked
this bogus war into hyper-drive, the more this clip from Brazil speaks for itself.

IMHO this is the CORE ISSUE of our time, and it's not going to get any "better"
until this pointless, endless "War on Terror" is called by it's proper name "1%'s
War on We The People". Hell, our own generals tell us that the drone wars are
"creating more terrorists" exponentially, as family member of "collateral damage"
victims vow to get revenge. But aren't there a few "really bad guys" out there
who'd like nothing more than to blow up a shopping mall? The answer to this is
unfortunately "yes"; however, we already had a full-spectrum law enforcement
apparatus in place before 911, before the Patriot Act, before the Dept. of Homeland
Security, before the NDAA paved the way for "indefinite detention" to become the
"law" of the land, eclipsing virtually all constitutional rights of US citizens.

Any actual real terrorists that may exist (who are not double/triple agents with ties
to our own CIA) are only the tip of a huge iceberg of foreign resentment and hatred
of the USA's arrogant imperialistic covert wars of subterfuge, double-dealing and deceit,
and our maniacal militaristic habit of invading other nations when it suits the 1%'s
pocketbooks to do so.

Call me crazy, but that's how I see it. I don't for a minute believe that Obama likes
this any more than most of us on DU, but he does have a lovely family who doesn't
want to see his brains splattered in public. I can't really say I blame him for going
along with it, and I certainly don't envy being him right now, given the fast track to
Dystopia that's becoming the new normal.
<--help! I'm running out of tinfoil.

They are the ones who start the wars. They are the ones who buy our political representatives to fix laws in their favor. They are the ones who ship our jobs overseas. They are the ones who pay no taxes.

which is where you lost me. I have seen very little from Obama since he was elected POTUS that opposes any of this, or even attempts to slow it down. I would imagine there is a lot of wiggle room between full speed ahead building the surveillance state and getting your brains blown out for opposing it too much. He's nowhere near the end of the spectrum that would get his brains blown out, in fact I'd say he is firmly on the other side of that spectrum.

Anyway thanks for the OP and this information.

Well, that strikes me as circular reasoning, i.e. the REASON he's "nowhere near"
acting and looking like a second FDR, or even a Kennedy, is that he doesn't want
to get his brains blown out, .

I didn't mean to imply that I thought Obama was currently in any danger. On the
contrary, far from it ... HE"s the guy with the "Kill List" and drones.

"To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 25 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or as civilian service in a Federal, State, or local government program or with a community-based agency or community-based entity, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, to provide for the registration of women under the Military Selective Service Act, and for other purposes."

The above site gives it a 1% chance of being passed, but as an Occupy activist who has watched cops arrest 7400 of us and more, beaten several (I was assaulted by PD for attempting to film them tackling completely innocent fellow Occupiers), and created laws against it, the above bill appeals to the cynic in me as the =potential= formation of enforcers and thugs who would happily bring down the Stanford Experiment upon the nation. If they are "deployed" within the US, it would breach Posse Comitatus.

1400 riot police destroy the Occupy LA encampment:

My Occupy LA Arrest, by Patrick Meighan (Family Guy writer. Warning: Graphic)

http://myoccupylaarrest.blogspot.com/

Why would anyone create enforcers and thugs? There is a business lobby in LA which employ faux police around the downtown area, including to criminalize and daily harass the homeless out of the area (which cca intend to gentrify). Here are "red shirts" on Skid Row attempting to create a reason to call LAPD to make arrests (very short):

Here is a red shirt on Skid Row saying that he's an "enforcer", at 13 minutes 46 seconds in. What is this corporation telling them they are?

And here are "purple shirts" acting =as police= alongside LAPD as they both attack an OccupyLA march:

But mind you, they are NOT police. They are private corporate-owned patrols, which is fascism.

Here is one of them telling musician Michelle Shocked that she can't leave art in the arts district. You can skip to 1.27..

From a CCA website capture:

"Do you deserve a place in LA’s most powerful rolodex? Our members are shaping the future of Los Angeles. They’re connected. They’re influential. They belong because they believe in making a difference."

http://web.archive.org/web/20120425231914/http://ccala.org/1-03-advocacy-and-action-newsletter.asp

Hopefully this is tinfoil but Trends force me to see things in worst possible terms. Hopefully it's different in your town. But what was nationally done to Occupy, a peaceful, righteous 1st Amendment protest against real actual crimes, amounts to domestic terrorism, by the government's own definitions.

Best to quick sweep the street of them, along with our US Constitutional rights to
freedom speech and association, for the purpose of redressing certain well-known
grievances.

Occupy, as it was, became embarrassing enough for the poor babies on Wall St. I
heard that bankers, including employees, like tellers, are prone to lie about what
hey do, to use some less odious title, like "financier". The last thing the want to
admit at many dinner parties is that they are a banker.

Thanks for your work with Occupy, and on DU. I generally like your posts I've
notice.
