EPIC FOIA - US Drones Intercept Electronic Communications and Identify Human Targets

EPIC FOIA - US Drones Intercept Electronic Communications and Identify Human Targets
New records obtained by EPIC under the Freedom of Information Act indicate that the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection is operating drones in the United States capable of intercepting electronic communications. The records also suggest that the ten Predator B drones operated by the agency have the capacity to recognize and identify a person on the ground. Approximately, 2/3 of the US population is subject to surveillance by the CBP drones. The documents were provided in response to a request from EPIC for information about the Bureau's use of drones across the country. The agency has made the Predator drones available to other federal, state, and local agencies. The records obtained by EPIC raise questions abut the agency's compliance with federal privacy laws and the scope of domestic surveillance. For more information, see EPIC: Domestic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Drones.

It is one of those things that start out small but in 5 years, we could be looking up and seeing a sky full of drones and asking ourselves, "when did this happen"?

And since Obama will be president forever, or at least Democrats (as long as we don't vote for those Naderites who would do ANYTHING to get Republicans in office) then there is nothing to worry about.

Plus I'm not an enemy combatant (at least that I'm aware of). So I don't get what the fuss is about.

Of course, I don't have a cell phone.

Possibly the most short-sighted statement I've ever seen on DU. (outside of congresscritter quotes, anyway)

When you are an enemy combatant, I trust you'll still be just fine with all of this, right?

makes me want to puke! "As long as you're not doing anything wrong," they say. Anyone who says that is a major part of the problem with out system!

I truly wish I knew how to change things, cuz voting doesn't seem to work anymore.

words:

Karl Rove to Suskind:

"Guys like you are in--what we call--'the reality-based community'. You believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." "That's not the way the world really works anymore. We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

Unfortunately, most people aren't listening. The ones who are listening and are trying to call attention to the problems, are marginalized, belittled, classified as nutjobs, or end up losing their reputations, and quite possibly losing their freedom. Wonder how soon we'll be having "political prisoners" ending up in Gitmo? I know that sounds extreme, but only a few years ago, I would never have thought this country would look like it does today!

because it feels as though I've been screaming about it for literally years.

There are already political prisoners taken from Occupy in Seattle, Cleveland, and Chicago. The FBI are now directly attacking the movement.

I know about the police/FBI, whoever, attacking those brave people, but didn't know that they're holding people! God, every day there is something else that makes me sick to my stomach! I'm beginning to feel that my country is dead.

Where were the "good Germans."

They were in oblivitopia -- not paying attention -- in a stupor -- trusting.

The "good Germans" were pleased because, after a serious inflation and in the midst of a failing economy, Hitler created jobs. That is what I heard from "good" and "bad" Germans first-hand.

Drones are a huge threat. We have to act against their proliferation in our communities.
