What's up with Sinclair Broadcasting Group?

Sinclair has been buying TV stations right and left. Are they up to something?

The reason it concerns me is SBG is run by some first class nut jobs. They are the ones that did their part to help Swiftboat Presidential Nominee John Kerry in 2004. They also ran an anti-Obama "special" on one of their stations in Columbus, OH right around the time it was becoming clear Ohio was slipping away from Romney. Are they trying to become the video equivalent to Clear Channel? IMO this needs to be watched.

No voice but theirs will be heard. The blatant lies that MSM cable networks put out in 2012 will redoubled. Nordquist and the Koches have promised that they will make aTea Party 2. The wing nut brigade also took over PBS in GA. They are getting increasingly bold. I hope we don't go like the social democrats did in Germany with all non-fascist groups turning on each other so the fascists can take over the entire government, finally implimenting all that Bush enacted.

Instead of paying someone to advertise your political hogwash, buy the advertiser and advertise for free. They can afford it because they are the 1%.

We see a concerted effort to silence progressive voices and to unleash radical right wing propaganda voices in a number of different markets. It wouldn't surprise me that they are working to gobble up a bunch of airwaves and to pump out their nonsense everywhere they can.

Or the movement going as best as possible.
I don't know how else we can regain any sense of a democracy if we lose our voice.

From a 2004 article about Sinclair's Board president, David D. Smith's political donations.

Federal Election Commission records of Smith's contributions going back to 1997 show only $1,250 in donations to Democrat C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger's congressional campaign and a $1,000 contribution to Al Gore. The rest, including $22,000 in "soft money" donations, total more than $32,000 to President Bush, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) and other Republicans. Brothers Frederick G. Smith and J. Duncan Smith, also Sinclair board members, have made tens of thousands of dollars in GOP contributions over the same period, record show.

Smith claimed he supported more Democrats because of his support of local Democrats. This article suggests that he and his family to support Republicans with larger donations.
