Chris Hayes has THE best round-table show...I'm gonna say, ever.

(6,996 posts)I was glad to see that MSNBC is showing repeat airings of UP during the day. I hope they continue that.

(5,168 posts)A panel of journalists who ask questions of one guest and really nail them down on issues. Having one moderator control the questioning isn't 'meeting the press' anymore.
Chris Hayes invites an occasional conservative who doesn't just spout the talking point du jour endlessly. I wish the panel could be cut by one guest, however. Having four guests, and sometimes a fifth on a video screen, makes everyone try to talk as fast as Chris. When he's on with one or two people, he even slows down and relaxes.
Graybeard
(6,996 posts)They are not allowed to spout their talking points because Chris calls them on it every time. Something that the miserable tool Gregory never does.

(37,364 posts)it is informative by not relying on pols and their hacks for input. CH teaches and learns with us.

(7,044 posts)... Americans are sick of Republican lies & soul-sewage....and Meet the RepubliWankers is just exactly that...
Perfect.
I stopped watching MTP during the W.Bush days when Russert played the stooge to Republican BS -- but I'll remember that phrase because it pretty much defines what MTP is.

(5,252 posts)I like Chris. Yes, he makes me feel inferior at times. Some folks here can do that too and for the same reason.
But it's all good. I like to learn from others.

ways are doing better than cable news in taking a point and expounding on it to a good degree.

Of course, those guests will never go where they aren't allowed to get away with a lot of unquestioned talking points, so it won't happen.
WhaTHellsgoingonhere
(5,252 posts)Like Skidmore said above, MTP creates supernovas out of "pols and hacks."
Silent3
(15,204 posts)...but I'd love even more to see a bunch of MTP guests thrown into that mix, forced to try to carry on an intelligent conversation (at which they'd fail miserably, they know that, and that's why it will sadly never happen).
WhaTHellsgoingonhere
(5,252 posts)They just talk louder and longer. They've done it for years.
They deserve nothing, certainly not more attention. MTP is an abject failure of truly epic proportions for this reason...well, among others.
Skidmore
(37,364 posts)they consistently present myths of how things work. The people Chris has on deal with the real life applications of policy and understand how policies are implemented on the ground. That is why his program is so informative. It taps into the reality, not the spin.

And let the panel talk about the way his dark, dark soul has gradually crept to the fore since Bush's people condemned him for fathering a black child, and he did nothing.

(75,480 posts)object to his show aren't up yet. I myself am rarely up at this time on weekends but I record the show. I wouldn't miss it. I never watch MTP anymore. It's just too stupid and insulting to my sensibilities.

(4,458 posts)is the only way to get any toxic programming removed from any airwave. We keep watching/listening for whatever reason(s), they'll keep renewing/airing---until it no longer works.

I already hear way too much about "them". Regardless of why the other media sources "report" about their toxicity---it still amounts to promotion, imo.

(5,252 posts)...if I were a Fox viewer, I'd watch MTP weekly. I know that to be the case because I can't stand the guests and the platform they are given.
Republicans have got to love MTP.

(108 posts)While I like the idea, in practice I don't think it would work nearly as well. Chris has a week to prepare in depth for his panels on Sat/Sun and that's part of why we are hooked. He has researched his guests as well as the subject and the result is that we all learn so much more than we expected. It is the most enlightening program going, and we get 4 hours of that each weekend. We record the shows and watch them while eating our lunch. I like it this way! If he did it every day I don't think there'd be the time for in depth research.

Excellent panel today--good mix of Dems and Rs--and a great show. They really covered a lot of diverse topics.

(10,252 posts)He has a fabulous wardrobe. tailored perfectly for his fit. No wrinkles any where. Very expensive top-of-the line wool, the latest fashion colors. Too bad he's not a real journalist. And too bad John McCain is always popping up.
I always record UP, 'cause I frequently can't catch it. But I hate the "what you should know" section, 'cause there's far too many of them, and he talks too fast. Just 2 or 3 "what you should knows" would be better.

(108 posts)I see your point, but it does give the final panel a chance to verbalize something important they wanted to say that may not have come up in the general conversation. Often something very important surfaces at that point.
I LOVE Chris Hayes, but I REALLY wish he would get more clothes that actually fit him. He looks so nice when he wears his grey suit with the nice shirt. hahaha petty, I know, but us women like our men dressed well. At least I do. I watched him this morning, and I actually watched parts of it twice. It is SO educational!

(1,554 posts)I stopped watching MTP after Mr. Russert passed, actually all the Sunday shows. They are all spots for Repubs to spew their garbage only to be rebutted by no one, or weak Dems. I must admit that I have yet to see Chris' show, but I am sure he does a good job.
I come here, and Crooks and Liars for the real news. I let you all suss it out for me first. Thanks!
I have been visiting DU for years and I finally got registered recently just to get a little more involved. I get more information from this site alone than MTP. When I saw Grandpa Walnuts appear three weeks in a row on that show I gave it up.
If it wasn't for Up with Hayes and Melissa Harris Perry my TV would be silent all day on the weekends.
And on a separate note how is it that MHP remains genuinely beautiful no matter what she wears and Fox women appear as cut outs from a fashion magazine?
Teacher in SC
(108 posts)We've quit all the Sunday shows except Fareed Zakaria's. I know you'd be pleasantly surprised by Up and should record his Sat/Sun shows so you don't miss something you really wished you'd known.
