All I keep reading is that its hard to find doctors who except medicare/ medicaid, and its expected to get much worse once the Affordable Healthcare Act takes full effect. One solution I have that I wish they would talk about....People who want to become doctors should be able to get all their schooling for free, with a few catches and only if they pass a bunch of tests similar to how military pilots can get their training for free. The catch should be, in exchange for their free training, they agree to treat nothing but medicare/ medicaid patients for a fixed amount of years....10 or 15.....So aspiring doctors have a choice, pay your own way and treat only patients with private coverage, or get free schooling/ training and treat the elderly/poor for a fixed amount of time. They need to start such a program, and fast!!

(30,058 posts)Supplies then the doctors could get a decent salary. We have paid lots to have advantage Medicare plans and it is the insurance companies getting the take. Friends who live abroad and have international medical insurance have been told by the insurance company if they are in the US and have an medical emergency and if possible to go elsewhere to any other country to receive further treatment because of the cost in medical care in the US. Medical care in the US is a out $7800 per person yearly, double elsewhere. It is not the do toes fault, too fingers in the pie.

(620 posts)medicare. Nor has my wife, and we use different providers.
When my wife volunteered with a child advocacy program through the court system, there was some difficulty finding dentists who would accept medicaid - it was difficult, but not impossible. There was never a problem with children/medical care though.
edited to change 'children/medicare' to 'children/medical care'

(182 posts)There are also too many loopholes to avoid coverage. You can say you converted to being Amish or Christian Scientist and then not even have to buy coverage due to religious reasons. I wish Bill Clinton had passed universal coverage back in 1992. All the growing pains would have been worked out by now!!
