For the second time in a week, scientists are warning us that what were eating is killing us.
This time it's salt.
Cardiologists gathered for a meeting in New Orleans report that excessive salt in our diets contributed to a stunning 2.3 million deaths around the world in 2010 including fatal heart attacks, strokes and other heart-related diseases.
They say that these unnecessary deaths represent 15 per cent of all deaths that year.
We found overall, 2.3 million deaths in 2010 around the world were due to eating too much salt, Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, of the Harvard School of Public Health, told CTV News. The magnitude of the impact was really surprising.

Whew. Ok. List is getting longer. Ban, salt, sugar, smoking, guns, pit bulls, cars (the exhaust is quite dangerous), lawn darts, fast food, toys in fast food, reg light bulbs, coal, nuke power, oil exploration, space exploration (heard we should that money here instead)
I am losing track here. Oh need to add alcohol and soda pop.
I don't know what fucking kind of life people would like to make me lead but how about we stay out of each others' bedrooms, kitchens, wombs, and other places.

(48,121 posts)Salt causes health issues, issues cost money, money is our god, so we find ways to make new laws to stop people from putting too much salt on their food.
Kind of like how CVS wants to monitor the weight of their employees, scott's company and others drug test for nicotine, bloomberg wants to limit the size of your drink (even though you could buy 2 smaller ones...).
There seems to be a contingent of folks who want to use government to control others and their choices (well, choices they don't like).

(20,776 posts)Salt is in Everything . Even Ice Cream. You just can't get away from it. Especially processed food. The thing is, I never ever buy salt, nor have salt shakers. I never add salt to anything, ever. But I know despite that, there will still be salt used. If you buy French fries from any fast food place, you can see the salt sitting on top. Once I went to a Panda Express and ordered some shrimp fried rice. In the rice, was a huge clump of Salt.
When I buy Soy Sauce, I try to either get the low salt kind, or there are actually Soy Sauces from Japan that contain no salt at all. Its so very difficult to get away from it, its no wonder there is so much hyper tension and high blood pressure in this country. Its very hard to avoid.
