Grounds for execution?: Punxsutawney Phil ‘indicted’ for lying about early spring

The calendar says it’s spring, but winter is holding its grip on us, putting much of North America in a cranky mood.

It’s so bad that Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who predicted an early spring, has been indicted for misrepresenting the arrival of spring.

As winter keeps spring at bay, a prosecutor in Ohio has filed a criminal “indictment” against the groundhog, who, he said, “lied” about his prediction that warmer weather would arrive early.

On the first day of spring on Wednesday, there was more than a foot of snow in many parts of the Northeastern U.S.

Prosecuting Attorney Michael Gmoser of Butler County told CNN the groundhog purposely misled the nation.

the indictment must be extended to every animal, vegetable or mineral possessing sufficient mass to block the wavelengths of visible light. I'm also guilty as charged!

terrorist marmots intent on controlling the climate for evil intent. If innocent sciuridae, soricomorpha or anatidae are caught in the ensuing surgical strikes then them must have been sympathizers.

Speaking of anatidae how would you proceed to waterboard a Mallard?

Is his last name actually Bush? P. Phil Bush?

I predict he will get off with no charges, buy land in another country with his family, and start painting very immature and amateur paintings as a form of therapy.

Oh, you said Groundhog... not ground hog. My bad.

No, in our little slice of heaven, ground hog takes on a whole other meaning. Down here prefer to have our hog in the form of sausage. And given the choice I’d rather stay at home with a mess of sausage gravy and some biscuits than standing around a tree somewhere waiting for a beast to stick his head out.

on a technicality...

He didn't lie.

He just wasn't real specific about where the early spring was going to be.

Somewhere in the world, spring is already here.
