Oh brother. Texas takes step toward secession with Rick Perry’s plan to hoard gold

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/22/texas-takes-step-toward-secession-with-rick-perrys-plan-to-hoard-gold/

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) and freshman state Rep. Giovanni Capriglione have a plan to create a “Fort Knox of Texas” so that the state can start hoarding gold.

Giovanni has filed a bill to establish a Texas Bullion Depository to store the $1 billion worth of gold bars that are owned by University of Texas Investment Management Co. (UTIMCO), which are currently being housed by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Speaking to conservative radio host Glenn Beck on Tuesday, Perry said that lawmakers were in the process of “bringing gold that belongs to the state of Texas back into the state.” Beck has been a longtime paid spokesperson for the precious metal seller Goldline, which agreed to refund up to $4.5 million to former customers last year after being sued for marking up gold more than 50 percent.

“If we own it, I will suggest to you that that’s not someone else’s determination whether we can take possession of it back or not,” Perry told Beck.

has a heckuva lotta assets within the borders of Texas, and it's within the scope of all our determination whether we can take possession of it. Taking a wild-ass guess, those assets are probably worth well in excess of $1B. We've already fought - and won - a war addressing this secessionist bullshit, and if Perry wants to fashion himself as a modern-day Jefferson Davis, then he will reap the whirlwind.

Federal transportation apportionments over $3 billion annually.

Federal research grants from agencies like NSF & NIH of well over $2 billion annually.

That's just off the top my of my head. Add the multiple Air Force bases, Naval facilities, and investments & assets I haven't even thought of & I'm sure that federal assets in Texas make that $1 billion in gold look like chump change.

You have to build, or rent space. Hire guards to guard it, and not just one little old man with a pistol like at a regular bank. $1 billion in gold is a HUGE target. 1,000 arms crooks could each be millionaires if they managed to pull off such a heist. 20 armed guards wouldn't put much of a dent in 1,000 armed crooks.

Texas of which we will lose funding for. In Harris County (Houston) whites are in the minority and has gone blue in the last election. Thanks to the crook Tom Delay, the district lines are crazy, only meant to elect as many repubs as possible, unfortunately I have a repub representative. We also have Crazy Cruz but hopefully the rest of the state will wise up and get rid of the crooks. I guess if OOPS doesn't seem capable of president of the US then he wants to ruin the state by his dumb succession crap. Things changed after the Civil War and upon being readmitted into the Union the original acceptance rules was changed. Texas along with other states used its succession ticket, its over now. BTW, I never voted for Bush and never have voted for Perry.

I would put it in a safe deposit box at a bank. These clowns will take the gold and transfer it to a bank so they can borrow against it's value like it was a cash deposit.
