By: David Edwards
A Fox News military analyst who has previously justified the U.S. invasion in Iraq by asserting that Russia conspired to hide Saddam Husseins weapons of mass destruction (WMD) now says that there is a very high probability that those WMDs are in Syria.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade on Friday spoke to retired Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney about recent rumors of a chemical attack near Aleppo, Syria.
What are the chances of the return address on these chemicals being from Iraq? Kilmeade wondered.
Well, I think there is a high probability of that, McInerney declared. Thats conjecture, but we do know prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom, there was a lot of vehicles crossing the border into Syria. And there was a great deal of conjecture. A Iraqi major general swore by it. He said he delivered it.
And so I think that it would be a very high probability if we could get into those bunkers that they would have Iraqi signatures on them.
In 2006, McInerney told Newsmax that there was clear evidence that Iraq had WMDs before the war and that the Bush administration ignored Russias involvement in helping to hide the weapons.
[T]he administration needed the Russians, the Chinese and the French, and was not interested in information that would make them look bad, he said.
RAW STORY
Ah, so Bush didn't admit the WMD weren't secreted to Syria because he wanted to make the FRENCH look GOOD! Of course! Why didn't we think of that first!!
WMD stupidity is back at FOX.

(12,958 posts)because they have a law that says, if you are a news organization, you cannot lie. They had RW Canadian lawmakers try to make it legal for news orgs to lie, but they got their asses handed to them.

(58,645 posts)I love when they make statements like this and nobody asks "How high of a probability?"
Should be the next question, immediately following such BS statements.
I suspect that the probability is somewhere higher than 1% or so. Maybe even 2%.

(2,347 posts)I remember this one from back then now. Maybe this is why the USG was so quick to say that there was no evidence Syria used chemical weapons? Someone in the Obama Admin remembered this nonsense and figured it would pop up if these accusations against the Syrian gov't gained any traction?

Of course, just like with Iraq and Afghanistan they promote and push the war, while far removed from participating on the ground.

(10,624 posts)Just think about that for a moment. Your country is being invaded, and you have terrible and powerful weapons with which to defend yourself (or at least wreak bloody revenge against your enemies), but no. That would be wrong. Better to just hide them instead, where they can do no harm.
Hell, give that guy a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize!

They testified that they saw no evidence of WMD being moved around to evade their inspection regime.

(32,886 posts)the undisputed authority on WMD situations. Just once their findings didnt mesh with Repug policy and they threw them under the bus so fast that Blix and Elbaradei probably couldnt believe what was happening.
I even had arguments with some Democrats that were alleging that Blix and ElBaradei had motives to report incorrect info.
