Rep. Paul Broun boasts about killing a lion: ‘It was kind of chewy’

Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is wooing Georgia voters with tales of his hunting prowess as part of an effort to be the next senator from Georgia.

During a recent interview with the National Review, Broun bragged about the various exotic dead animals that decorate his Capitol Hill office.

“One politico says that Broun made the final decision to pursue a congressional career during his days as a volunteer lobbyist for the Safari Club International, a group that advocates for conservation and hunters,” the National Review‘s Betsy Woodruff wrote. “Broun remains an avid hunter. When I stopped by his Hill office, the first thing I noticed was that hunting trophies covered almost every wall. When he had to move offices a few months ago, the movers made quite a scene parading the heads of wild animals through the halls of the Rayburn House Office Building.”

“If I shoot it, I’m gonna eat it,” Broun told Woodruff, pointing out that warthog was especially delicious.

“I had roast warthog, it was cooked in a French style. I’m a French cook myself, and I like to cook things with some fancy sauces and stuff that I’ll make at home. That was excellent.”

The lion that he killed, however, “wasn’t particularly tasty.”

“It was kind of chewy, but I ate it too,” he explained.

They have guides they are on a preserve in a Land Rover and the animals are captive targets.
Now if you hunt a deer for food that is different.

While hunting on a game ranch may not be particularly sportsmanlike, I don't see what the big deal is.

He shot and ate a warthog and a lion. So what? There's probably all sorts of things to criticize him about, but this isn't one of them.

....and should be protected as such.

I suppose we should just let the Japanese wipe out all the whale species that are still in existence too?

Allowing a small number to be hunted dioes not threaten the species.

I suppose we should just let the Japanese wipe out all the whale species that are still in existence too?

They should certainly be allowed to harvest species that aren't endangered.

Heck, I ate whale twice just last week when I was in Iceland. Minke whale, not endangered.

It was yummy.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minke_whale

The IUCN Red List labels the common minke whale as Least Concern.

COSEWIC puts both species in the Not At Risk category. NatureServe lists them as G5 which means the species is secure on global range.

Does your food have a face?

Only the really delicious varieties.

planning on running for the seat. I'll be glad when he's the entire states embarrassment instead of just the 10th district's.

Fuck Paul Broun Jr. He's also the "science is sent from the pit of hell" guy.
