BOOM! Dominican official links Daily Caller (Tucker Carlson-Editor) to paid lies about Sen. Menendez

from the WaPo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/dominican-official-links-daily-caller-to-alleged-lies-about-menendez/2013/03/22/d81470d0-930a-11e2-8ea1-956c94b6b5b9_story.html?hpid=z1

A top Dominican law enforcement official said Friday that a local lawyer has reported being paid by someone claiming to work for the conservative Web site the Daily Caller to find prostitutes who would lie and say they had sex for money with Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.).

The local lawyer told Dominican investigators that a foreign man, who identified himself as “Carlos,” had offered him $5,000 to find and pay women in the Caribbean nation willing to make the claims about Menendez, according to Jose Antonio Polanco, district attorney for the La Romana region, where the investigation is being conducted.

It is examining his role in advocating for the interests of a donor and friend, say people familiar with the probe.

The videotaped claims of two women, made with their faces obscured, were posted last fall on the Daily Caller. The site reported that “the two women said they met Menendez around Easter at Casa de Campo, an expensive 7,000-acre resort in the Dominican Republic. .?.?. They claimed Menendez agreed to pay them $500 for sex acts, but in the end they each received only $100.”

The Daily Caller issued a statement Friday saying that the information allegedly provided by the Dominican lawyer, Melanio Figueroa, was false . . .

Besides it was all just a prank.

“At no point did any money change hands between The Daily Caller and any sources or individuals connected with this investigation, nor did anyone named Carlos travel to the Dominican Republic on behalf of The Daily Caller."

So his name wasn't Carlos and you gave the money to a middle man. Duh.

Nobody named Carlos works here.

Fair enough. Still, if it's all the same to you, I'd like to subpoena The Daily Caller's financial records. Particularly their "Slush Fund" account.

Seriously, though, did 'Carlos' pay by check? Maybe it's time for Sen. Mendez to file a lawsuit for libel, based on this information, and subpoena The Daily Caller's financial records.

Follow the money.

People that are not "public figures" and sue someone for libel or slander must prove either falsehood OR malice.

Public figures must prove BOTH falsehood AND malice.

It can be done. I believe some Hollywood types in the last few years have received published apologies and monetary settlements based on the defendants believing they would likely lose even under that standard.

Because "someone" has made the decision that NJ could make a difference in who controls the majority in the US Senate? Because they think a Republican can win the next Senate election or that a Republican Governor might appoint a US Senator until a special election is called? But long enough to make a temporary majority work for them? I have been suspicious of these attacks from the very beginning? But who is behind it? The Daily Caller? I doubt it.

You are watching the slowing sinking of a right wing favorite who was once considered a rising star. Carlson has sunk so low, but I bet he has a few despicable tricks left him before he fades away or is laughed off the scene.

Taking their news as fact is kind of funny. You know like taking Mccain advice on military subjects. Iraq war would take a few months at the most.
