Just the latest reminder that our government has been ground to a smoking, shuddering, clanging halt, for some time now: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022548811
(Obama judicial appointees currently being obstructed: 107, versus 7 Bush appointees awaiting confirmation at a comparable time in his second term.)
And much outrage about how it's all the Dems' fault. Because the Dems, apparently, do not have what it takes.
And this is true.
The Dems do not have what it takes to obstruct, pervert, and hold hostage the structure of our government, to gain partisan and ideological ends.
And I am glad of this.
Because "what it takes" has been amply demonstrated by the GOP:
A reckless disregard for the well-being of Americans.
Callous, greedy self-interest and concern with their own re-election above their oath of office.
Willingness to sacrifice the long-term health of Constitutional Republican government for short-term gains.
Utter certainty that the end justifies the means.
I am really, REALLY glad that not enough Dems "have what it takes."
While I share the frustration and outrage at the sniveling lack of moral courage shown by many Dem "leaders" in the face of the NRA and the various other tools of Our Beloved Oligarchs, I would not wish them to emulate the GOP.

(46,179 posts)is the willingness to stand tall and firm and battle them...not the continual, corrupt "compromise" with them that has, in fact, not halted anything, but sent the corruption and corporatization of the U.S. government racing ahead full steam.
The very First time the GOP pulled the Obstruction Card would have been their Last attempt!
I would have gone to the mat over it and I believe Many others would agree.
After the GOP got away with it So easily the first time--the "Elite Corp Dem Leaders" allowed (perhaps desired) the precedence to be set. I personally, hold (some of) the Dems responsible, not the GOP. It was the Dems who failed to take immediate corrective action. The harm caused in the wake of these acts is likely Worse than Stopping this practice out of the gate, imo.
Any temper-tantrum throwing, spoiled, undisciplined child will take advantage of their parents if their parents continually reward them for Bad behavior.
The Dem Majority Failed to take control when they had the chance and subsequently Ceded Majority Control to the GOP. They failed "us" by not doing what we elected them to do and they did it in the face of Major Public interaction/response.
