Which Costco employes make 45K? Thats $21.60 an hour.
Moosepoop
(1,917 posts)But overall, it's apparently pretty close to the mark.

The $17 per hour figure was from 2005. It may be more now.

I always tell people to shop at Costco and that WalMart is evil.

(57,936 posts)well treated. It makes such a difference in the attitude of the employees of the store.
When I go to Trader Joe's, the employees are working so hard -- but they seem happy about it. They seem to be a team that is proud of what they do and serving customers.
I have the impression that Trader Joe's only picks people who like serving, helping others as employees.
Love Trader Joe's.
Costco is also very good, but further from my home.
And the large quantities that Costco sells are not really practical for a couple that doesn't buy giant sizes any more.

(34,582 posts)Take care of your customers second. If management focuses on making their employees happy first, then the employees will make the customers happy.

(16,350 posts)they'd crap on their customers too. I notice happy workers when I go shopping. If people are not happy and I see a lot of turnover, a red flag pops up in my head.

(16,350 posts)I hear it's hard to get a job there because people don't leave! And they don't sell hydrogenated crappy foods. That's my store!

If so, that's awesome!

(2,150 posts)products that are reasonably priced.
It's waaaay better in prices and service than most stores.
And whoever said their products are "too big" to be practical. That's just not the case. They have many single items that fit with a small family like ours...which is only me and my spouse at the moment.:
Yep...jost LOVE COSTCO.... and now even more because of this report on how it treats its employees. loveya:

(9,033 posts)how little Costco pays its CEO.
edited to add: in 2004, Costco's CEO made 2.7 million
Waldemart's made 17.9 million

That certainly is how it's done. It's not easy to become a billionaire and still be highly praised on a progressive message board like DU.

(63,221 posts)Costco and Target. We sell our products at all three stores, but I was hoping that this would help to influence her and the management to think twice about putting so much stock in WalMart (they are one of our biggest retailers).
It was from Bloomberg, so it was pretty legitimate as a business article. Hopefully it will influence them toward favoring Costco and Target. WalMart is going down the tubes.

(4,033 posts)picked up vegetables, water, paper goods, basically grocery shopped. I'm going back tomorrow to buy a TV. I like the fact that you get a two year warranty at no extra cost. I also have an executive membership, which gives me back 2% of what I spent at Costco for the year. The payment is guaranteed at $55.
A young man (employee) and my mom got into a conversation. My mom's question to him was did he like his job? His answer, he loves it.

(10,597 posts)... for not being greedy. For taking care of his employees like they are human beings with families and responsibilities, not like they are nothing but numbers or pawns. This is called old-fashioned "Job Security," for those of you who don't know what that is. This is the way it used to be.

(198 posts)...that Costco provides enough money in pay and benefits, that their employees are not forced to "suck at the government teat," as Walmart's employees often must.
Walmart's corporate profits are/were so large because the U.S. taxpayer picked up the slack.
Therefore, Walmart = EVIL.
The maths don't lie!!!!!!! (little snark there! )

(26,571 posts)So "going under" would be quite a catastrophe. Walmart and others must change and be responsible employers. Corporations like Walmart, just to name one, have abdicated their responsiblity as citizens to share enormous profits with the workers who produce that profit. On the contrary, corporate greed has hoarded profits while paying workers less, and even while full time workers live below the poverty level.
What is really needed here is a strong retail workers' union, but I don't have too much hope for that.
