WTF? USA Today: Mother's actions after fatal shooting of baby questioned

Mother's actions after fatal shooting of baby questioned
The daughter of a Georgia woman whose 13-month-old son was shot in his stroller Thursday says she is upset about her mother's behavior after the tragedy.

Ashley Glassey says her mother, Sherry West, called the night of the shooting and asked how soon she might expect a check from a life insurance policy. Glassey also said her mother changed her story: "She told me that the baby was shot first, and then she told me that she was shot first."

De'Marquise Elkins, 17, and Dominique Lang, 15, are accused in the death of toddler Antonio Santiago. Elkins' mother, Karimah Elkins, 36, and aunt, Katrina Elkins, 33, are charged with making false statements to police.

I...

This honestly sounds like the daughter is trying to smear the mother. Now both the mother and aunt of De'Marquise Elkins have both dropped their alabi stories for him after being brought in to custody AND have provided information which led to more witnesses and a potential murder weapon at the bottom of a pond.

So the likelyhood that the mom somehow staged this shooting or, I dunno, is anything but a victim seems pretty danged low.

Now, I have no idea why she'd want to smear her mother or throw doubt onto her mother's account AND motivations, but she's sure doin' it!

Crazy train.

Just got that sort of fraud-y feeling. It may be that these kids shot the baby, but then I read that this woman lost another child to violence previously. How does lightning strike twice like that?

do you more harm than good.

Their thinking is that the mother hired these kids to shoot her baby and her, so that she could collect the kid's $5-10K insurance policy (meant to cover funeral expenses).

Most commonly cited reasons:

1) "Susan Smith";

2) "Something felt off"

Depraved and idiotic.

people think of Susan Smith these days.

But they have suspects, right? And I haven't heard anything about anyone charging the mom, and can't they tell if she's fired a gun or if her own wound was self-inflicted?

And proceeded to believe her account and arrest these guys. So, that pretty much wraps up that angle.

Of course, one SW Truther told me that someone could shoot themself in the ear and the thigh without getting gunpowder residue on them.

These are not well people.

It was the oddest thread.

Well now they have to prove the mother paid the guys who the police arrested for their gut instinct to be worth anything. Good luck with that.

I don't put too much emphasis on the insurance payout thing either. Besides, if the daughter wanted to, she could represent a rather innocent comment any way she liked for effect.

She picked the kids pictures, probably out of a school yearbook. Are you willing to put 2 young black kids in jail for life, on Sherry West's sayso? She may be crazy , for all you know. This is how lynch mobs used to get started. Calm down and let the cops sort it out.
