Eastern Iowa is a quite welcoming place, home to Dave Loebsack and (hopefully) future senator Bruce Braley.
Something happens when you pass Des Moines.

I enjoy visiting there. The people always make us feel welcome.
They allow gay marriage right now. I believe they were the first to allow interracial marriage. They are a tolerant bunch, on the whole, and literate. My husband's family came from there. We still have farm property there. My daughter went to Iowa State and loves her school.
