Gang rape in India is out of control - Three men arrested, including two police officers, after

teenagers' bodies are discovered in Uttar Pradesh

Authorities in northern India have arrested three men, including two police officers, suspected of gang-raping and killing two teenage sisters before hanging their bodies from a mango tree.

The deaths have sparked renewed public outrage over sexual violence in the country.

Villagers found the girls' bodies on Wednesday morning, hours after they disappeared from fields near their home in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, police superintendent Atul Saxena said. The girls, who were 14 and 15, had gone into the fields because there was no toilet in their home.

Hundreds of villagers spent the rest of the day in silent protest over alleged police inaction in the case. Indian TV channels showed video of the villagers sitting under the girls' bodies as they swung in the wind, preventing authorities from taking them down until the suspects were arrested.

Villagers accused the local police station chief of ignoring a complaint by the girls' father on Tuesday night that the girls were missing. The station chief has since been suspended.

The family belongs to the Dalit community, also called "untouchables" and considered the lowest rung in India's caste system.

India needs to address it's race, class and gender problems urgently. Don't look for sanctions against them anytime soon.

We're not talking about that gang rape. We're talking about the other gang rape. No, not that one either.

That there are plural ones people can get mixed up is horrifying.

Remember Indian movies show nothing sexual.

That said so is the utter contempt for women in that society as well as race, class and corruption.
Two police are among the rapists/murderers.

Myself and others report it to Interpol and the FBI but.. and as usual this particular well known adult site takes about 2 days to delete the videos and it'll usually pop back up in a week.

No one seems to give a shit.

Which well-known porn site allows users to update vidoes of assaults, and takes days to remove them?

but lets say there are more toilets inside the homes and other safe places.

this still doesn't address the rapists themselves. the thing is that even if the women have to leave they should not be getting raped.

what if women just want to go out for a walk at night ?

Granted, a toilet in every home isn't going to solve the root problem in India or anywhere else. Only when women achieve full equality can we hope to eradicate this cancer of the world's soul. Women's rights are not a side issue, a pet project, something we can "get around to" once we've addressed every other issue on the seemingly endless list of priorities. But being witness to how entrenched misogyny and its very real danger to women can be mocked, dismissed and denied even on a progressive forum such as this one, among those who could be considered to live in a more enlightened society, I'm not overly optimistic that I'll live long enough to witness the rise of the world's women.
