Men who watch pornography have small

brains.

If you watch porn, you probably have a small brain, a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) shows.

The study, conducted by the Max Plank Institute for Human Development in Berlin, found a significant negative correlation between frequent pornography consumption and grey matter in the brain (that’s the stuff that tells your brain how to react to sensory information.)

The keyword here is correlation. While the study’s findings are significant, the researchers don’t know if it’s the porn that causes the low grey-matter volume in porn-watchers, or if it’s the other way around. It could be a neurological pre-condition that makes watching porn particularly satisfying.

I consider it to mostly be for teenage boys and dudes that aren't getting any real sex. Why would I want to watch it when I can be doing it? It's just very juvinile in my opinion.

And it gives people unrealistic expectations of what sex is supposed to be. Most women do not want to be pounded for an hour straight (and most guys can't do anything approaching that anyway) and most of them don't want to be bukaked at the end of it.

I don't care if people enjoy it, by all means, do what you want. I just find it kind of silly.

Two possible reasons: less intelligent people have fewer other interests; or it may not be a matter of intelligence, but of level of 'natural' arousal and stimulation, and under-stimulated people are more likely to seek external stimulation such as porn. In order to check which it is likely to be, one would have to see whether it also correlates with IQ. Lower grey matter doesn't necessarily mean lower IQ; it depends, for example, on where in the brain one is talking about.

Also this is just one study, and it may be that the next study will contradict it!

The 19th century 'studies' were much worse, however; they went solely by size/shape of head, and drew all kinds of unfounded conclusions about the brain.

There are still 'researchers', especially from the evolutionary psychology field who make all kinds of unfounded conclusions about gender and racial differences in intelligence. I don't think this is quite on the same level; but 64 people isn't a lot, for drawing conclusions.

What I really am worried about here is that some people might go, 'OMG! Porn shrinks the brain! Ban all porn!' Which is neither a valid conclusion, nor a realistic aim (and I'm someone who dislikes porn).

But when the director finally got the pair to settle down to the business at hand — filming a sex scene — the tone changed. Without any prompting, Vidal got rough during the sex, slapping Michelle's face violently from side to side, and choking her.

Afterward, she looked shaken, her face reddened and her eyes watery. But she insisted she was OK. "I look torn up — can you tell?," she asked an ABCNEWS producer who was following her progress for Primetime. Laughing and wiping her eye, she turned away and said without conviction, "I took a beating today, and it was great."

...

During interviews with Primetime, Michelle kept the happy smile she had always had — even when describing things that many people would find disturbing. However, her composure cracked when Diane Sawyer asked why she always smiled. Tears came to her eyes as she said, "Because I like to hide — hide everything, you know?" Then she began to cry, explaining that she hides her real emotions because she wants to show everyone how happy she is. "And I'm not happy … I don't like myself at all," she said.

Michelle confessed she often felt physical revulsion during her scenes: "My whole entire body feels it when I'm doing it and … I feel so — so gross." While pretending to be enjoying the sex, she said, she was in fact counting the minutes, telling herself, "Hey, I only have this much time left. Don't worry about it. Get the check. Gonna go deposit it in your bank." She admitted: "You get addicted to the money."

http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=132369&page=1&singlePage=true

Regan Starr who worked on the second film in this "line", Rough Sex 2, had a different take. "I got the shit kicked out of me," she said. "I was told before the video - and they said this very proudly, mind you - that in this line most of the girls start crying because they're hurting so bad . . . I couldn't breathe. I was being hit and choked. I was really upset, and they didn't stop. They kept filming. You can hear me say, 'Turn the fucking camera off', and they kept going."

Pornography has grown into a $10 billion business — bigger than the NFL, the NBA and Major League Baseball combined — and some of the nation's best-known corporations are quietly sharing the profits.

...

At conventions and other public events, the adult industry tends to portray itself as a happy family promoting shame-free sexual enjoyment. But privately, many performers say the reality is very different.

"There's some unwritten law or agenda out here in Pornoland that … if we tell the truth about what's really going on here, the fan will get turned off," said Ona Zee, a former performer who is now an advocate for reform.

While a hit movie can bring in as much as $1 million — adult movies have a very long shelf life, and can keep selling for years after their initial release — most performers see little of the profits. They are seldom paid residuals, and often get only a flat fee. The fees vary from $350 to $1,000 for a conventional sex scene to a few thousand dollars for more extreme sex.

You point to two negative experiences that two performers encountered, and yes, their experiences were horrible, that does not mean that ALL of porn involves rape. That's a ridiculous leap.

Second, most of porn is rapidly moving away from the traditional porn companies. It's becoming more and more, DIY. Most performers set up a web cam in the privacy of their homes and sell directly to customers.

Bottom line is this, people enjoy performing in porn and people enjoy watching it. I can post books written by porn performers who enjoy their work.

Yeah, never mind.

You obviously arent interested in anything that doesn't support the mantra that porn=good.

94. So, every porn performer is raped?

Is that your argument? Even the people sitting at home having sex with their spouses on a web cam. These people are raped as well??

Same nonsensical kneejerking reactions as usual when anyone dares to criticize this particular sacred cow.

When you said:

Well I'm pretty sure people aren't raped in order to make comic books and music.

A reasonable interpretation of your statement is that people are raped in order to make porn. Now, if you want to amend your statement feel free.

And, yes. I do think that porn, by and large, is a good thing. It's art like anything else is. Like movies, video games, music, paintings, sculptures, poetry, etc. It's a form of release from the every day world.

And like a lot of people, I do watch it, and I have no shame about it.

If I am watching porn and run across anything like that, I go to some other video. Then again, I rarely watch much straight porn on purpose. Unfortunately, I have to wade through miles of semen to get to the only women parts a lot of times. I hate that. I wish there was more lesbian porn made by lesbians for lesbians, and no rape stuff or rough stuff, for me, thank you. I'm against the stuff that traumatizes women. Reform would be much better than trying to ban porn though.

In all varieties. In fact, there are quite a few lesbian porn companies, run by women, that make the kind of porn that you're looking for.

104. CNBC. Yes, CNBC is currently running a porn business show.

Saw it the other night. There was an entire segment about women porn producers. Redqueen and many of the HoF members want you all to believe that all porn is evil rape committed by men, but they might get an eye-opener from this CNBC show. No, it's not all positive. But it's nothing like what the HoF people make it out to be.

90. So they are desensitized?

Jun 2014

I'm sure it is not saying they are unintelligent, right? It sounds to me more like they might be desensitized. Remember the old saying about how watching television rots your brain? Maybe it applies to porn too? Then again, what do I know? I watch porn from time to time and feel myself becoming desensitized. I no longer feel the need to keep an umbrella handy in case I run across any straight porn in my search for good lesbian porn, which is difficult to find without having to wade through miles of semen first. :/
