About to take my kitty to the vet 8-(..... (UPDATED)

out of nowhere yesterday she started having issues walking. her back legs are pretty weak. she is better this morning then yesterday, a little stronger but she is still walking about like she is drunk. i am sure she didnt get into any nasty chemicals or anything.

She is about 14 years old now, the vet looked at her 3 months ago and said she might have hyperthyroid but easily fixed. everything else looked ok.

WE looked it up and it could be diabetes or arthritis. its just weird that she was ok one minute then hard to walk the next. its not something thats slowly happened over time. Getting a little scared because of her age 8-(

well we just got back from the vet. after doing some blood work it looks like her hyperthyroidism kicked into high gear so her liver readings were a bit high, everything else in the blood came back good.

the vet said that hyperthyroidism will cause cats to have problems moving around and enlarge their heart.

got lots of meds for her to take and another check up in three weeks.

the news was 100 times better then what i was afraid they were going to tell me.

thanks all for your well wishes!

And hugs for you.

She's a beautiful girl. I am quite fond of black kitties myself.

It turned out to be an ear infection that threw off her balance. Antibiotics cleared up the problem but she walked around with her head tilted for months afterward.
Hope all goes well.

Yes, this is what I was thinking as well. Have had one cat experience this. Very frightening because it comes on so suddenly. My kitty literally crawled in circles and I feared the worst. But, as you said, a simple round of antibiotics fixed her right up.

My best wishes to the OP.

Pretty kitty. I have an all black cat, too. Good luck, I hope everything works out. I have vertigo, and sometimes have trouble walking straight. could that be the problem?

She is also a black cat, short hair, about 17 years old.

She is having a hard time walking and not eating as much as she had been.
I love her so much, I'm hoping that Winnie and your kitty are just suffering from old age.

We had a cat who was sick with what the vet called "dizzy cat", the vestibular infection. Antibiotics and steroids fixed him up.

By careful monitoring and change of diet, his vet and I actually reversed the diabetes. Got him off cereal-based dry foods and on all protein wet food. Took about a year. He'd been way overweight on the demand-eating of dry food. On wet food, he got back to normal weight and was much more physically active. Made it a few happy years until his heart gave out. Good luck with your cat.

it's really good that you're taking her to the vet. But walking like that is very scary because it could mean something in that inner ear. If it's only an infection, you are lucky.

She looks like a good girl, I hope she comes out ok. I have no doubt that she's getting a lot of love. You might want to keep her inside for a while too.

Courage.

furbabies years ago. One day, she was fine, the next, her hind legs were like jello. I thought she had a stroke. It turned out to be kidney failure. My kitty was much older than yours, so we opted out of the treatment, but I've known many people who have treated cats similar in age to yours.

Whatever the diagnosis, I hope your beautiful kitty is doing better.

And he must have walked through her garden. The vet gave him something to counteract the poison and he recovered.
This was 30 years ago.
He looked just like your kitty. Good luck, I hope he recovers fully.

i have two other cats and i would have had to separate their feedings and make sure that she didnt even get a single drop of consumer food or the treatment wasnt going to work and that might have been difficult so we went with meds first.
