Let's assume for the sake of argument that Bergdahl did just walk away from his unit.
Let's just get that issue out of he way whether the accusations about desertion are true or not.
Think of it.
Bergdahl survived 5 (five) years in captivity in Afghanistan.
This guy may have a lot of information to share with our military and intelligence agencies assuming he is mentally and physically healthy enough to share it.
The Guantanamo prisoners we traded for him may or may not turn out to be very dangerous. But they are older than they were when we captured them, and they have gone through a lot.
They too may become sources of information for them. We know what they look like. We know their voices. Who knows? Maybe we have their DNA. Maybe we know more about them than the world can imagine. Maybe we can predict more about what they will do and who they will contact than the Taliban could understand.
The released prisoners could be very valuable sources of information to us.
I think the Republicans are, as usual, not very intelligent and have not thought their criticisms of the President's decision through.
Please tell me what you think.

they are now.
and I have no idea what we should do with them.

(1,850 posts)There is little doubt that they certainly are terrorists.

(40,416 posts)I like what I am reading here on this.
I would add that we need to let the military sort this out. They do not want a scandal any more than they want a deserter to go free. They are therefore likely to be diligent in their investigation.

(2,830 posts)if they didn't surreptitiously "tag" the prisoners. Some type of long term marker introduced in their food and they glow for miles to the right equipment.
