Hilarious: Open Carry group organizing delegates to carry assault rifles at Texas GOP convention

A controversial Texas gun group has called on activists make the Texas Republican Party convention the next front in their battle for the right to openly carry assault-style rifles as many places as possible. “All delegates, I urge you to open-carry the whole time,” Open Carry Tarrant County coordinator Kory Watkins wrote. “I will be a delegate with my AK 47. Thomas Jefferson would be proud.”

City officials, however, pointed out that guns would not be welcome in the Fort Worth Convention Center as long as alcohol was being served.

The GOP has no problem taking bri . . ., er, donations from the NRA but there's no way in hell they're going to let delegates in who are packing.

might change their tune if there is a shooting. <clip>Republican Party of Texas Chairman Steve Munisteri noted that 1995 law permitted concealed handguns, even if the legislature had not yet legalized openly carrying rifles in establishments that sell alcohol.

“We expect to have people there carrying weapons,” Munisteri explained. “It’s a Republican crowd and that’s a crowd that’s used to people packing.

“If the city and the convention center leave it up to us, we will allow open carry and, of course, anyone with a concealed-carry license.”<end clip>

The Repubs are OK with the open carriers recently harassing an ex-Marine in downtown Ft. Worth, because freedom. Let's see how like that convention hall, populated by knuckle-draggers with assault rifles. Think Frank Sinatra in the finale of the original "The Manchurian Candidate" movie.......

A while ago, I suggested that any repug would have to have a McConnell moment where he/she raises a weapon in the air at a convention. If they refuse, they wouldn't stand a chance of being nominated or elected.

At this point, I'm in such a mood that I hope it does go wrong, one way or the other.

The most sane option is for the GOP to tell the gun-nuts NO, which would alienate Tea Partiers, Cliven Bundy-ites, and a lot of others. Good -- isolate the fringe groups back to the fringe, why don't you.

The more pandering far stupider option is to let the pistol-packin' mamas and AK47 packin' yahoos swan around with their phallic symbols hanging out. In which case, I hope someone lets fly.

Pass the butter.

The attitude in Texas is "An unloaded gun can't be used to defend anyone." So a unloaded gun is just a club.
I think anyone who carries an Unloaded AK-47 to the Republican convention is JUST A PUSSY! They're Un-Texan!!!
ALL Texas should carry loaded AK-47's all the time, including while in a bar drinking, at weddings and Christmas pageants, at the voting booths, in hospitals, to grade school Open Houses, to high school graduations, to Cowboy games and in mental institutions. That way, at a moments notice, they can All kill each other's children and parents and in the long run, make America a better place.
If everyone in the convention is openly carrying, what would be the point of metal detectors, and body guards?
Republicans love gun rights, until one of their own family members is killed by an idiot with one.
