GOPer Changes Name To Ceasar Chavez, Becomes A Dem To Run In Heavily Hispanic District

CATHERINE THOMPSON – JUNE 2, 2014, 2:09 PM EDT

One failed GOP candidate will do just about anything to win in Arizona's heavily Hispanic 7th congressional district -- including switching parties and legally changing his name to that of Hispanic labor and civil rights icon Cesar Chavez.

The Arizona Capitol Times reported Monday that Scott Fistler, who launched a failed write-in campaign as a Republican against Rep. Ed Pastor (D-AZ) in 2012, successfully petitioned an Arizona superior court last November to change his legal name to Cesar Chavez. Chavez also became a Democrat earlier this year before filing to run for the congressional seat being vacated by Pastor, who is retiring.

Reached for comment by the Capitol Times, Chavez said he had been "flooded with calls and emails" and was no longer speaking to the press. He also told the newspaper that if he did decide to answer its questions, he would not discuss the name change.

“There is just simply not enough Cesar Chavez to go around,” he wrote, as quoted by the Capitol Times. “We may resume questions starting May 10 (sic).”

Goodness. That is quite extreme. I wonder if it will work. Who is the Democrat running against him?

Which would enable him to win. With six running you only need about 20-25% of the vote to win if everything else gets split.

so I would think the name change could be challenged and voided.
http://www.arizonanamechangelaw.com/requirements.asp
..."The Courts are often willing to accept name changes for almost any legitimate reason. However, the granting of an application for change of name is discretionary with the Court. For an order/decree/judgment of name change to be granted, the Court must find compliance with the requirements of notice and the requirements for the allegations in the application. The Court must also find good and sufficient reason for the change, find the change consistent with the public interest and if the change of name is for a minor child, find that the change is in the best interests of the minor child.

You cannot change your name for a fraudulent purpose, such as to avoid debts, you cannot change to a name that could affect the rights of another person, such as a celebrity, you cannot use a curse word, racial slur, obscene and/or an offensive word as part of your name and you cannot change to a name that would cause deliberate confusion (for example, a name with punctuation and/or a number in it)."....

Pubes have such a cartoonish view of the minority community. This ass clown thinks that by securing name recognition and switching parties that "them brown fellers" will vote lock step for him.

I have a feeling he will get less votes now then if he would have kept his name and ran as a republican.

The candidate formerly known as Scott Fistler also prominently displayed photos on his website of crowds carrying signs and wearing T-shirts with the name "Chavez." But the photos, as the Capitol Times pointed out, were actually of Venezuelans rallying for deceased former President Hugo Chavez.

Is there any reason why a person might not be allowed to change his or her name? Yes. The court must find that the requested name change is based on reasonable grounds. Reasonable grounds for a name change are generally those that are consistent with the public interest. A person is not allowed to change their name in order to avoid judgments or legal actions against him or her, or to avoid debts and obligations. A person can not change their name to defraud any person.

http://namechange.uslegal.com/name-changes-laws-by-state/arizona-name-change-law/

Every adult U.S. citizen has a constitutional right under the Fourteenth Amendment to change his/her name at will. As long as a person consistently uses the new name on all personal and business documents, the new name must be legally recognized by authorities. A person can change his/her name by filing of an application in civil court along with a nominal fee. The applicant should provide a valid and reasonable explanation for desiring a legal name change. The court can reject the application if it appears that the applicant has intent to perpetrate fraud by concealing his/her identity. For instance, it is illegal for a person to change his/her name to that of a celebrity, with the intent to impersonate that celebrity. Many institutions such as banks and insurance companies require a court order to change a customer’s name in their records.

Any Phoenix prosecutors willing to prosecute Fistler?
