You may already have contacted the FCC and/or your representatives about the latest threat to net neutrality; if so, it can't hurt to do it again.
Internet service in the US is slow and overpriced compared to other developed countries. The reasons boil down to the fact that weve failed to treat it as a public utility, as other countries have. Not only have we left this essential infrastructure to the vagaries of corporations, but weve under-regulated them, resulting in a lack of competition, among other problems.
Now, the FCC wants to make things much worse. They want to adopt regulations permitting telecom giants like AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon to create fast lanes for those who can pay more, picking winners and losers online.
Partly because of the FCCs loosening of regulations during the last few decades, at least 90% of traditional media are owned by 6 colossal, multinational corps. If we allow the FCC to kill net neutrality, the same forces that bought control of cable tv and our political process will have the power to discriminate and censor content on the net.
The net is where freedom happens now. We need to make ourselves heard! Please take a few moments to phone, fax, and/or email the FCC and/or your representatives (URL's below), and tell them to reclassify the internet as a public utility and to regulate to protect REAL net neutrality.

(47,803 posts)Yes, by putting it off, those who want to sneak this in hope that we'll become numbed to it.
So, good to remind us to keep the attention and pressure on.
